On another note, the Braves have cut bait on the Jose Bautista experiment and named Johan Camargo as the full time 3B. Nothing against Bautista, but this had to happen...he doesn't appear to have anything left in the tank and his approach doesn't fit in at all with what the Braves are trying to do.

Of course he is, and when it's all said and done he's going to be one of the best of all time. He'll even probably end up with a better 2018.

But as of this exact moment in the season, Betts is better. And that's OK.

Interesting what the Rays are doing vs the Angels this weekend.

Sergio Romo started yesterday's game by striking the side out. Then was pulled and replaced by the "starting pitcher" who went 6 and a third and got the win.

Romo is starting today's game too.

The Jose Bautista experience couldn't last even 2 weeks.

I find it interesting what the Nats are doing with Juan Soto. I don't know the reasons behind promoting him, but it seems interesting to promote a player who has less than a full season of professional games/PA's under his belt and is only 19. Looking at his numbers he has absolutely raked, but he has 35 PA's above A ball.

Is this a case of the Nationals thinking he's ready, or is it that they are only planning on having him up for a short time before sending him back down?

                I disagree.

How is it any different than if the ball hit the top of the wall and bounced over? Or if it hits a player (like Conseco's head or the fielder's glove) and bounces over?

For a guy who can't seem to get anyone out, Yu Darvish has amazing stuff.

Confusing to me too. The rules, 5.05 (6), that determines this actually even specifically says "fair ball, after touching the ground" and (7) doesn't say anything about the ball going over the fence, just through or under.

(8)&(9) defines the Canseco HR and parks like Fenway have specific ground rules regarding the ladder on the wall and balls bounding into the stands.

So I did some research on this. First off, it is written in the rulebook that any ball bouncing off an outfielder or his glove on the fly and clearing the fence is a home run, so that's just a straight rules call.

As for the ball bouncing over the wall, every park has it's own ground rules. Fenway Park actually does have rules saying that if a ball caroms off the Green Monster and out of play it is a home run. In Houston, the yellow line you see on the fence is the key. If a ball hits on or above the yellow line and caroms out it's a homer...if it hits below and caroms out it's a double. I watched the replay and sure enough the ball hit well below the yellow line on the fence in that part of the park.

Minute Maid has a lot of wacky angles and a lot of ground rules. This specific spot wasn't covered exactly.

I did some more reading and the most logical part is this. Walls, especially below the yellow line, are considered the same as the ground. So rule 5.05 (6) addresses it. It's just a plain 'ol boring regular rule double.

What a strange sequence for Miami to get the first run of the day. First, Inciarte drills the wall and allows Bour to get a triple after not making the catch and the ball bouncing back away from all the other outfielders. Then Teheran drops the ball for a balk.

LOL...Julio with his typical melt down inning. Guy just has struggled to avoid that inning his whole career.

I'm not surprised that Jose Bautista didn't last in Atlanta. Not the kind of role model those kids over there need. Maybe he was once a good role model in Toronto, but not running stuff out pairs poorly with his declining skills and lack of interest from other MLB clubs.

On another note, Yu Darvish gave up 1 run thru 6 IP--this is his best non-Brewers start as a Cub so far. Also in line for his first Cubs win. I especially like that he didn't give up a hit after the Reds scored in the 1st inning. 3 quality starts in 8 tries for Darvish.

A good Darvish and Quintana plus better situational hitting is the only thing standing between this team and 100 wins.
