Win or ND, great outing for Darvish after the rough 1st. Deserves that elusive first W today.

Romo is starting today's game too.
I didn't see this happen today or the other day, but there are a bunch of strategic scenarios I could think of for this:

      1) Starting pitcher wasn't warmed up yet.

      2) Possible rain on the forecast, and didn't want to burn starter during that period.

      3) Gets starter in a groove facing "worse" hitters while a "dominant" reliever faces "better" hitters to begin with (this actually sounds like a cool strategy).

      4) On a similar note to #3, all right-handed hitters to start the game; this is where Romo shines best.

      5) On a similar note again to #3, if the starter faces the "better" hitters later in the game, they'll have seen him one time less than usual (which by that third or fourth time they'll have picked him up better).

      6) It's American League so there's no strategy needed on needing to use a pinch-hitter or anything at any point in the ball game.

Given that the CG is not really a think managers and pitching coaches push for anymore, the need for a starter to literally start the game becomes less and less of a necessity as well since you're probably not considering pitching them all nine innings anyway. Instead of waiting till your starter burns out and just mixing in any ol' reliever, or wasting Romo on batters that he is not best set up for, they get the matchup they want immediately to start the game, and get to use him the next game in the series should he be successful (as he was) and face the same lot again.

I like this kind of bold strategy for sure. It doesn't look very disadvantageous in foresight.

I can see myself being bitter about not sweeping all 4 from this [really bad] Reds team. That 5-4 loss in extras stings even though winning 3/4 on the road against any team should probably be seen as a good series.

Schwarber gets tossed arguing a high "strike" call. Never really seen him get this hot before.

He's coming up to bat right now and may get another AB before the end of the 8th inning.

But as of this exact moment in the season, Betts is better. And that's OK.
listen if you think Betts is going to continue his 215 wRC+ which dwarfs any other season he's had then good on you. He's been really really freaking good. But Trout is better.

At risk of jinxing it, I'm really impressed with Strop so far this year. Always had that nasty slider, but now he's getting over the plate enough to wipe guys out with it.

How is it any different than if the ball hit the top of the wall and bounced over? Or if it hits a player (like Conseco's head or the fielder's glove) and bounces over?

It landed (which is an important distinction) in play below the yellow line. It’s a double.

A ball that hits the top of the wall in your example lands in play above the yellow line and is a HR.

Man, closers in non-save situations really do have a lot of trouble getting into their right mindset and groove.

Even if Atlanta loses this game, they sure gave their audience a good look. Let's see what Flowers can do here.

This is also the eight year anniversary of their epic 7-run comeback win against the Reds when Brooks Conrad walked off with a grand slam. Can't believe it was that early in the year, because I was driving home from SDSU that day when they did that. It was May? Wow, CSU's get out early lol.

                          EDIT: Now Suzuki's turn!

EDIT: Suzuki did his job, now bring on Camargo! On Dasher, on Dancer, on Prancer and Vixen!
