Again, Trout DOESN'T WANT to be marketed. And the Angels are a particularly hard team to market in the same way the White Sox are: they're fairly irrelevant WITHIN their home market. Even ignoring the obvious giant teams (Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Cubs), Trout would be much easier to sell as a Mariner or Brewer or Brave or Blue Jay than he is as an Angel, because he'd automatically be a big fish in a small pond.

Pretty sure anybody who goes out of their way to visit MLB.com is already well acquainted with Mike Trout.

(I mean, my mom - not a sports fan - knew who Ted Williams was; she'd never have heard of Trout.)

You're probably right to some extent but if you look at the Williams/DiMaggio comp. The public was more into Joe D and the sports writers who shaped the public consciousness a lot more than the media does today slanted things towards DiMaggio a lot more. My comp isn't the greatest from that aspect but it just seems to me there are other players that get more of the outside baseball love than Trout does. I think most people in baseball realize Trout is probably the best position player to play in a generation or two but if you look at the media attention it seems Trout is overshadowed through no fault of his own.

I've already said twice, though - some of this IS Trout's "fault". He doesn't want "outside baseball love". Now, if Trout played for the Yankees or hit 80 HR in a season or won 3 straight World Series, then yes, he'd get a lot of it regardless. If Trout dislikes media attention and doesn't crave a national spotlight, then why are you blaming the media for basically acceding to his wishes? I don't see the big deal here.

Chatwood on the mound and the bases are loaded with Giants in the 1st inning. To the surprise of nobody. I think Chatwood is going for the record of most baserunners allowed in a season.

Are the Cubs sure that Chatwood's issues are just mechanical? The guy just looks really bad. It's not like he's missing by a little, he's missing by a country mile on his pitches.

Just the 1st inning and there's some strange **** going on here in Cubs-Giants.

The 2nd base ump just got smoked.

Looks like i picked a good night to watch SNB. This looks like it's going to be one of those wild and wacky weird games.
