You forget Verlander had a dip in velocity for a couple or so years and was in the proverbial woods though he had a major injury/surgery that takes a long time to fully recover from.

They're also different pitchers, Verlander even when he was younger would conserve his bullets so he could throw in the upper 90s late in games. Felix in his prime threw a TON of FB and breaking pitches that obviously puts a lot of stress on the arm. He was used way too much in his younger days as well.

EDIT: Baseball is littered with guys who were flame throwers who had to become crafty in their later years CC Sabathia is the latest example but the greatest one (in terms of sheer difference in style) was Frank Tanana who was a fireballer in his younger days with the Angels but became a crafty soft tossing lefty with the Tigers.

Lourdes Gurriel with 10 straight games with at least 2 hits....that's quite the streak

EDIT: first rookie to do so since Shoeless Joe Jackson in 1911
      Chicago Cubs
      Michigan Wolverines

The first game of the temporary Travis Shaw is a success. No errors.

Counsell said before the game that his only concern is Shaw turning the double play. He has no problem with his fielding. He said with the shifts that they have been using all year, Shaw has played that side of the infield, near 2B, in-between the bases, shouldn't be a concern.

He said there will be growing pains, but they should be short term.

Thanks, Cards, only 1/2 game out now.

Ehh. He'll be fine I expected him to regress some. He was ungodly in the first half. Just as I expect Sonny Gray to be alot better in the second half.

At least this collapse won't be as painful as 2011.

I was about to make a post about how Hector Rondon was having a great season for the Astros, and then he went and gave up 4 runs in 1 inning, raising his ERA by nearly a full run....still a very respectable 2.41 though

Tonight was my first Astros game to attend. Not great for our team but still an awesome atmosphere and Odor was exciting to watch even though he was playing for the other Texas team.

Went to the Angels/Mariners game. That was fun. Trout hit a homer and had two ridiculous catches where he had to run an insane distance to make the grab. Nelson Cruz hit two homers. Ohtani roped a double.

Fun stuff. But **** Seatgeek. Bought tickets from them around 4 hours before gametime and 1.5 hours before the game, they straight up cancelled the order because "the tickets were no longer available." We were literally driving to the stadium at that point. After DMs they literally said oh **** tough luck well we'll refund you just buy other tickets. Excuse me? We bought Stubhub seats from the car on the way down. Ridiculous.

Braves are only 2 1/2 games back. The Phillies just had the opportunity to be 4 1/2 games up and choked away 2 games to the Reds. I believe this division will come down to the last 2 weeks of the season.

The Braves actually have to win for there to be an actual race. More than 5 games in 20.

Jackie Bradley Jr. with a fantastic catch, and complete disregard for his body.

EDIT: And if anyone is able to catch the Brock Holt looking strikeout, go at least to the Red Sox broadcast and enable the "Park" natural sounds setting. You can hear the entire exchange between himself and Doug Eddings clear as day. NSFW.

Is there a way to look up the "Statcast" for specific catches? I want to see the #s on Trout's runs and catches from yesterday.

Y'all might wanna turn TBS on, even though most people in LA can't do that.
