I was very uninspired by the Chavez trade, but he's been excellent with the Cubs.

For the first time since 2007 (another decent season), the Red Sox are the first team to 80 wins.

Cubs played one of their best games since the break tonight. Crisp. Good starting pitching. And a healthy dose of David Bote.

My prediction before the season was 99 wins, and I thought that was a little high. If they get close to the record, I'll die.

They'd have to play 10 games under .500 baseball (19-29) the rest of the way to avoid hitting triple digit wins.

EDIT: They'd have to play at a 36-12 clip (.750) to tie the wins record.

                37-11 is pretty damn ambitious.

For a team, on August 7th, whose next win ensures no possibility of a losing record, it seems within reason. Still a long shot though, true.

I knew along Sonny Gray was really a closer.

I doubt anyone else will find this interesting but Jacob Turner used to be the Tigers #1 prospect, Detroit traded him to Florida/Miami eons ago for Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante.

Turner is back with Detroit and started tonight in Anaheim after Fiers finally got dealt.

he gave up 7 runs in 1 inning and that was it

Shohei Ohtani has 61 strikeouts this season.

                        He also has 61 strikeouts.

Of course I went to the wrong game of the double header. If the Braves also lose tonight I may stop going to their games. They play better when I can bless you all with my posts about how bad they are.

I was just about to make a post saying something along those lines.

I can't help but shake this feeling that the only reason the Phillies made this acquisition was to get that rhyme going. Just like I feel the Yankees got Brandon Drury on the off-chance that both he and Judge would homer in the same game. I just know that MLB.com would love to have a headline that says: "Judge, Drury, and Executioner!" or something stupid like that.
