I'm just guessing, but maybe they thought since he only threw one pitch in the game that it's kind of more like "two games."

I hope they don't take that into consideration with their suspensions, but that train of thought still makes me feel better knowing that he is effectively missing two anyway.

Almost afraid to ask but what should the Phillies be ashamed of themselves for?

          Having a bad game?

They lost game 1 of the doubleheader 24-4.

            They won game 2 9-6.

Nah. A 5-7 game suspension for starting pitchers is MLB boilerplate. Only once in the last 10 seasons has a starter been suspended for 2 starts for throwing at someone.

It shouldn't make you feel any better. Urena took the mound knowing he was only going to last one pitch. There's a zero percent chance that Mattingly didn't tell him to drill Acuna.

Urena could have very easily broken Acuna's wrist and cost the Braves a playoff spot. Perhaps Manfred should be more concerned about this kind of thing than how many ad campaigns Mike Trout appears in.

You know, I've come to accept the fact that in baseball it is a traditional unwritten rule to throw at a player when he or is team does something egregious beyond what is expected of their normal on-field duties. That egregiousness can come in so many forms as well. Heck, one time a HS softball team came in to play us and blasted their own music during warm-ups. In my head, I said if this was a baseball team I was coaching I would have told my pitcher to plunk their batter on the first pitch. Doesn't matter if they knew what it was for or not, or if it was intentional. You just don't do that.

But as many others on here have said... hit a guy for playing well? What in ****'s name is that all about? I've never come to understand that nor will I ever agree with it. He hasn't shown anyone up, he hasn't taunted anybody, and even if it was a blowout game there is nothing illegal by homering against another team. Stealing a bag when up eight runs may be a different story, but you do what you do for you when at the plate and nobody should dictate otherwise. That is criminal, and as much as you say Mattingly told him to make that happen, I can't even fathom the idea that he would come from that camp. Even if he did, I've never thought of hitting a guy was something that was intended to take him out of the lineup for weeks, but if you are intending to hit them you might as well account for the fact that very thing could happen.

Another aspect of playing to your fullest (in his day) and not getting thrown at should include:

                    1) Accidentally hitting one of their players, even if it injures them (perhaps consider the scenario at play in the game and chalk it up to the fact that there was nothing gained by hitting that player nor was there any probable cause leading to it).

                    2) Breaking up a double play sliding through second base, even if it knocks down or injures the middle infielder. Now, spikes high is a different story, as is sliding away from the bag to break it up. I consider going through (with equal intent to get to the bag as fast as possible and get out of the way) is clean baseball.

But you don't hit a guy because he's doing well. Even Bryce Harper, the guy who homered off Strickland twice and kind of called AT&T Park his house when he put one into the cove, shouldn't have had to be thrown at upon their third matchup, especially when it was like four years later lol. Regardless, it was the playoffs and adrenaline lets our emotions run rampant. Just get the guy out next time, that is the absolute best revenge that you can make happen.

Besides, this game has automatic freakin' walks now. You don't want him to hit a home run? Wave four fingers. Ridiculous.

                      The streak ends at 8.

This Harrison Bader kid is going to be the face of this organization one day. Wait and see. Kid has all the tools to be an all-star.

HUGE! weekend series with the BrewCrew.

Well Mike Shildt has one person in his corner to be the permanent manager of the Cardinals...Jose Oquendo.

I'm one of the fans that wanted Oquendo to replace Matheny if anything happened, but apparently Oquendo has told the front office he has no interest in being a manager. So if Oquendo is a supporter of Shildt then I guess I am.

                        Hire Shildt!

This is the problem with unwritten rules. What's unacceptable to one person is A-OK with someone else. Toss Urena for 60 games, Mattingly for 10, and take a couple million out of Cap'n Jeets' bank account, and you get rid of this BS.

Another Jays promotion. Calling up Billy McKinney. One of guys they got in the Happ deal. Played 2 games for Yankees in his career(this year).

Will likely make his Jays debut sometime this weekend in their series in NY vs Yankees. Funny enough, those 2 career games for the Yankees were against the Jays in Toronto.

Happ will face the Jays for first time since being traded on Sunday.

I don't mind throwing at Acuna if they're being an ******* like, say, Carlos Gomez.

But he wasn't doing anything like that at all. Just hitting very well.

*shrug* I'm just glad he's alright.
