"Best shape of his life" updates from Yankee camp, the best kind:

Sevy has lost 15-20 pounds by cutting fried plantains out of his diet.

Tommy Kahnle has kicked the habit he's had for the past 5 or 6 years of having 5 Red Bulls and 2 coffees every day, taking it down to just 1 coffee.

Feels so weird seeing and hearing Charlie Montoyo as Jays manager.

First time having a guy behind the bench in ages where you get the feeling he'll be a good coach long term. Farrell didn't want to be here, Gibbons wasn't the best choice as manager, Citos return was only short term.

Montoyo seems to really enjoy being here and has a different feel to his approach and overall attitude.

PECOTA predicts the Cubs to go 79-83 this year.

I almost feel better about getting the irrational kiss of death like Milwaukee got last year. But, really, PECOTA is a trash projection system that is projecting worse seasons for just about every single Cubs player (wasn't thrilled paging thru my Baseball Prospectus that came in the mail last week). Even those that had the "down" season last year. Someone at BP really needs to get their **** together.

But, even though PECOTA is trash, I wouldn't be shocked to see the Cubs become more of a .500 team this year.

I find PECOTA is always very conservative with win predictions...I feel like they always come in low.

That number keeps going down. It was 82-80 like a month ago

PECOTA doesn't take into account weird factors like a bunch of players flourishing at just the right time. It was infamously wrong both years the Royals made the playoffs.

IIRC I think it was also off on the Brewers last year too.

Well, this isn't good news Dodger fans

Kershaw's been shut down with "an arm kind of thing".

It's a shame Kershaw is breaking down at such a ripe early age. He's just 30 years old and it doesn't seem like he can have a 'normal' year anymore.

It's what happens when you get run into the ground by your organization throughout the years.

Hey, it's Major League Baseball on my TV screen! 2-0 M's beating the A's in the 3rd inning. Spring Training, but still very nice to see. Oh, and this is recorded from earlier today actually...

His unorthodox and very taxing delivery doesn't help either.

What makes it unorthodox and taxing?

                            Unorthodox?

He hits his balance points better than almost anyone from both the stretch and the windup. What are you referencing?

I caught abit of the game on MLBN just to get some baseball on TV again.

I don't care how meaningless ST games are. There's something special about watching games in different environments and OF backdrops, along with having a completely different audio feed to the game.

That's an underrated part of watching ST games. Smaller parks/less people means the mic can pick up everything. If there weren't commentators, you could close your eyes and actually feel like you're at the ballpark. Hearing individual people in the crowd, the food vendors, the different sound the bat makes when it hits the ball, all of it. Just sounds that a regular MLB game can't capture.

I probably used the wrong wording. I was more thinking about the stresses on his arm and range of motion more than the actual delivery itself.
