I don’t care if anyone says it’s early or it’s just spring training or the pitchers he’s faced but seeing Buxton 5-5 with 2 homers and 10 rbi after 2 games brings a smile to my face to see something going right for him at the plate. Hopefully it’s gives him some confidence and gets him rolling. The talent is there it would be awesome to see it all come together this year.

Sort of unrelated, but I was watching the replay of the Twins-Nationals game the other day (yesterday?) and Max Kepler homered. The broadcasters (I think they were the Nats guys...and I agree with PhilliesFan13 that these guys are a rough listen) mentioned that Kepler is the most athletic player on the team. I almost threw the remote at the TV asking--to no one in particular--if they've ever heard of Byron Buxton...

Would be good for baseball to have Buxton fulfill his potential.

Yeah that’s a funny, that title definitely belongs to Buxton. Although if Buxton wasn’t around Kepler would be the Twins starting center fielder. I don’t dabble to much into defensive metrics but I believe Kepler grades out at an above average center fielder in the time he’s played there which has been a lot since Buxton has been hurt and struggled so much. But I may have heard wrong on that.

Not even March yet, I'm already over the "Vlad service time" discussion.

If Jays say he's MLB ready and he doesn't get put on opening day roster, he/agent/mlbpa have an argument vs Jays.

If Jays say he's not MLB ready, people rip Jays for not thinking he's ready for the big leagues yet.

He's MLB ready offensively, won't be called up until mid-April, we all know that, we all know why Jays can't admit it, and have seen this story multiple times before, so can people stop reporting about it all ST long?

The Jays aren't going to say he's MLB ready and send him down. They're going to say he is not MLB ready and needs work at third base, etc. If they said he is MLB ready and sent him down, the MLBPA would definitely have a grievance.

If I'm the Jays management, I would be tempted not to call him up until late April 2020. That's not going to happen. But my argument is why burn a service year this year when we're going to be terrible. He's only going to turn 20 in March. What's the rush? I realize it wouldn't be a popular decision but if the Jays are thinking long term why not?

                2 reasons:

                1) Vladdy has accomplished EVERYTHING there is to accomplish in the minor leagues. It's gotten to the point that when he was at the Fall League observers were saying that he was actually bored because he knows he's better than all of those guys.

                2) Having Vladdy up with a bunch of the young guys and being exposed to the MLB life as early as possible will be good for him in the long term. The Jays also have one last year of Kendrys Morales who Vladdy has said is like a father to him and will be a valuable mentor to him. Even Vladdy father has said that he should be under Morales' tutelage.

Nate Lowe absolutely murdered a baseball against the Red Sox. That guy has some big time power, really interested to see him this year as something seemed to click with him last year and he was genuinely ridiculous. Nothing really in his way either so should see him this year

By watching MLB-N 30 teams/30 days, I just learned that Matt Davidson is trying out pitching for the Texas Rangers.

It was fun watching him pitch last year. He's got the stuff to be a successful as a reliever

Listening to Jon Miller call this Reds-Giants game on MLB-N is like an eargasm after getting the Nationals' broadcast team too often lately.

Chris Shaw for the Giants just pulled an unbelievably majestic home run that disappeared into the night.

It's one thing to hit it like 450 feet in a power alley, but this was down the right field line and that just doesn't happen often. Note that I don't know how far it went at all, but it reminded me of one of those home runs with the power, height and direction that could have landed in Rogers Centre's upper deck.

EDIT: I don't really know, I'm probably over-exaggerating it. Last thing I want to do is find out it just went 370 feet or something. Sure looked good though, but without a shot of where it actually went it's all mythical speculation on my end.

Come on now....bust out your calculator and equations; you know you want to tell us to the decimal how far that ball went!

Oh, I'd love to! I need parameters though haha. Initial velocity, "launch angle" (ugh), wind speed, temperature!

Okay, I won't include temperature. We would need distance though to get at least a half-decent idea of whether or not it could have reached that upper deck in Toronto. I believe it would have reached Yankee Stadium's, Coors', and CBP's without question. Out of reach in Seattle or Cleveland, though.

EDIT: Here is the video, anyway.

Chris Shaw pulls a two-run home run to deep right field, giving the Giants a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the 8th inning

One thing for sure is that the hang-time was somewhere between 7-7.5 seconds.

Big surprise, Devon Travis is hurt again.

Jays should've traded him when he was healthy. They already have Gurriel and Galvis up the middle. Drury will be on bench once Vlad gets called up, and Urena last year in his call up time was good. So 2 starters and 2 bench guys to plug the middle while having 2 top prospects who also play up the middle. No need for Travis.

Though I heard Jays might try Gurriel in OF. That'd be great if it works out. They have him signed to a video game glitch like contract. Could become one of biggest long term contract steals in baseball.
