My god I can't stand the Braves. Getting mad over a slide into second base that didn't even make contact with the defender?

We have to have a starter go more than 5 at some point...ridiculous that a turn through the rotation and our bullpen has thrown more innings that’s our starters.

          Meanwhile.......back in Brew Crew land.lol

The cardiac kids are back at it giving up a 3-0 lead to the Reds and waiting till the 9th to deliver back to back doubles by Yelich and Braun.

No HR for Yelich and only 1K for Hader.

          Keep the train rolling.

Ahhhh Julio Urias the guy everyone forgot about. 5 shutout innings against SF so far. His first start in a few years.

Future rotation looks good with Buehler, Urias, Alvarez, White, and May.

EDIT: And the Dodgers go Back to Back to start the bottom of the 5th. Chris Taylor and Alex Verdugo.

I'm glad to get a win, but Newcomb only going four innings in an 8-0 game is concerning.

Now he just needs 2 grand slams in the same inning.

Could very well prove to be true. I think the first alarm bells were back in 2017 when the team had a hangover year and frankly seemed ok with it. When a lot of us Cub fans were expecting the contention window to be opening for a good long while, maybe it was as open as it was gonna get? Then the Astros threw some low key shade at the Cubs after they won in 2017 (about how not all teams take the next year off...). Having progressively worse results from 2016 to 2017 to 2018 and now a lackluster start to 2019 I think has Joe Maddon sitting on his first legitimate hot seat in Chicago.

Maddon has never been a great in-game tactician, his lineups have been odd at times (anyone remember the Kyle Schwarber, Leadoff Hitter era?), and he's pretty brutal with bullpen matchups. Sometimes it almost seems like he's bored with his job and that's why he freshens things up by moving Travis Wood from P->LF->P->LF->P->LF or throws a pajama party road trip or thinks batting practice is for overachievers.

His strength has always been creating an environment that gets the best out of his players. I think that super power is starting to come into question more and more. If the Cubs keep playing like this (hold on while I go vomit), I wonder if Theo will have the balls to fire Maddon this summer or if he lets Maddon lame-duck his way through the whole season (as the Brewers sail away with the division). It's pretty clear that this season is an audition which is why no contract extension was proffered.

I have been as big of a Maddon fan as there is but I think since the WS he has tried too hard to buck classic baseball and progress the game. I've never been a fan of his bullpen management, but I liked the way he approached things that people do because that's what's always been done.

Baseball needs more of that, but I think Joe has gone too far with it. I don't know if it's intentional in that now everyone has caught up, he needs to continue to prove how much smarter he is than the rest of baseball, or if it's an unconscious thing he hasn't been aware of until after last season.

Over four games, the offense has been more than good enough, overall. This will probably continue. Defensively, they are strong at C, 1B, Baez, CF, RF, and Bryant isn't horrible at third.

I don't know what they thought the bullpen was going to do, though, even if the starters manage to deliver.

I think the Darvish/Arrietta decision was "the turn"...not that Arrietta is anything like is 2015/16 self, but unless Darvish can pull off a transformation, that's the point at which the club hit a wall.

Stuck with Darvish's and Heyward's contracts...new kids about to get paid...Theo/Ricketts painted themselves into a corner, and in what might be a portent of things to come, the ownership was not willing to buy it's way out...which would've been hard to do anyway.
                              Australian Rules Football...just sayin'

Lol so 40% of the Yankees rotation and 30% of the starting lineup is on the DL now. Jesus it’s like they’re turning into the Mets with these injuries. Better now than 5 months from now I guess.
