Re: 4/29 - 5/12 Game Discussion Thread
Gotta love the Braves commentators talking about how the Braves bullpen has been great the past 4 weeks. Then Minter retired 1 hitter out of the 6 he's faced and now Webb is in, bases loaded and he has a 3 ball count.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: 4/29 - 5/12 Game Discussion Thread
That's the thing about baseball which sucks. What's there to get excited about in a rebuild?
In hockey/basketball especially, you deal away vets for picks, lower your salary(or at times take on an expiring deal to get an extra pick), and the worse you do, the higher pick you get which gives you better shot at a top guy.
In baseball, what is accomplished by losing? Draft picks mean next to nothing. If you trade a vet, it's for some A or AA ball prospect who might not even make it to the big leagues.
Having few playoff teams and no "tank nation" for the bottom teams gives us too much meaningless baseball for too many teams.
You have to just really love baseball as a whole to even stand watching a rebuild.Comment

And something I haven't seen, are you allowed to run to 1B on a hit, not touch the bag with your feet, touch it with your hand, then continue past?
I know obviously you're allowed to run past 1B on a single, but didn't know you could do so by touching it with your hand.
Yes, first base is just like any other base.Comment

Actually what he's describing makes first base unlike second and third

It's like rectangles and squares, every first base is a base but every base isn't first base.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Not sure what you mean? You can touch it with just your hand whether you are advancing to second or if you are going past it.Comment

I didn't mean going to 2B. I meant when you run through 1B down the baseline to beat out a throw. Except in this scenario you're touching the bag with your hand instead of foot.Comment

Ignore the tweet(and the score) The video is just to show the play. Had no impact on outcome of the game, I just want a baseball rule clarification.

I feel like he's basically saying in other sports when your team is bad you have a reason to watch and in baseball you don't. It's not even a matter of tanking or losing intentionally, it's just that if your team is bad it's bad and you have to deal with it. What's great about that?Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

If you suck in NBA this year, what are you looking forward to? The chance to draft a guy like Zion or RJ. We've had so many who are worth tanking for and getting top pick and their rookie year are in the NBA putting up big numbers.
A lottery pick in other sports are a big deal. When were Trout, Betts,Yelich,Degrom,Snell,Kluber taken? And after being taken, how many years before they're in the big leagues? Nothing can be done about this, but it just shows how theres less excitement for losing.
Very few in NBA are superstars who weren't drafted in the lottery. Sure, Kawhi and Giannis are 2 of those guys, but they're part of that rare group. Westbrook,Curry,Durant,Harden among others all lottery picks.Last edited by Majingir; 05-09-2019, 11:00 AM.Comment
