Congrats go to both guys. BTW I never knew that Sandberg played for the Phillies!

Anyways i'm still PO'ed that Jack Morris isn't there yet. He was the most dominating pitcher of the 80s and yet he still isn't given recognition. I'm starting to think he'll have to wait til he's on the Vets comittee list.

Does anyone know when they'll announce the Ford Frick award winner for this year?

Even though a couple of them made it this time, it does seem like a lot of the 80's guys get underrated by the voters.

To me, Blyleven, Dawson, Gossage, Rice and Trammell are all Hall-of-Famer's. Then I've got Mattingly, Morris, Murphy, Smith and Sutter in the *close* category.


Glad about Sandberg though, he was one of my favorites growing up.

guys keep talking about ballparks the players played in, how they hit/pitched in day games compared to night games, and if they dominated or impressed them while they played. who cares, look at the numbers, and stack them up against the guys already in. just cause someone didnt dazzle you while they played shouldnt keep them out of the hall

He'll definately go in as a Red Sox. Now if Dave Winfield hadn't screwed things up a couple yrs ago we'd have a real interesting debate about Boggs' hat in the HOF.

But doesnt he work for the DRays front office? If so, that might complicate matters.

No it won't because the new rules are that if a player has played for more than one team then his cap will be based on the team he made his name in and had his peak years at.

So under that criteria Boggs is definately a red sox.

Was this what the Winfield reference was about? I agree he should go in with a Sox cap on but the conditions you said leave a little leeway. What if he wants to say the apex of his career was getting hit 3000 therefore that was a peak year? Its lame I know but I wonder if the DRays will be behind this excuse to get him in. So who decides then his peak years and where he made his name?
