Adding Delgado, would make the Marlins on paper a pretty good team. Solid OF, potentially top notch rotation, deep bullpen, corner infielders who are run producers.

Lets not forget to factor in the Mets recent history with acquiring FA's has turned out to be the kiss of death.
I think you mean the Mets recent history with acquiring VETERAN free agents, as in Roberto Alomar, Mo Vaughn, Jeremy Burnitz just to name a few...

Pedro's Era against everyone but the Yankees is great, not to mention he'll now be facing pitchers as well. (And shea isn't exactly a hitters park)

And we all know Beltran is anything but an aging veteran...

Lets face it though. It's not the Pedro of old. Odds of them getting 33 or 34 starts out of him this year are somewhat iffy, and he's not the same pitcher. He's still top notch, but he's not the dominant pitcher of years past. I love Beltran, but he's hit 30 bombs in a season once in his career, and is a lifetime .284 hitter. Not to mention I believe he hit .267 last year... He's a very good player, but he doesn't have the bat to carry an offense. So we'll see if either of those transactions live up to the hype, or if the fall to the Mets recent jinx of big name players flopping when they get to Shea.

Again, not saying the Mets don't have some talent, but to act like they are any better than the Marlins on paper doesn't make sense.

He's deciding today, and I don't know why any of you aren't mentioning the Orioles who have offered the most of the four teams. Call it wishful thinking, but he will go where the money is, and right now Baltimore is offering the most of it. Plus, Camden Yards would make his stats EXPLODE.

a left handed hitter is what we need bad. we got some great pitching, finally a decent bullpen *although losing bentiez hurt*, and a good infield. i really really hope we can land Carlos.

at this point, i dont care where this idiot goes. with all the baggage this guy brings with him, now is not the time for him to pull out his primma donna routine and run up his salary. He is a 32 year old offensive 1st baseman. his defensive skills are not worth top dollar and his offensive skills are not worth 50 million plus over 3 years. the mets are making a smart move not going over 50 million for this guy. i was all about him going to the mets but then delgados agent turned into a ******, and the price is run up. props to delgado and his agent for getting teams this high but everything i have seen to in the past 24 hours reguarding this deal has been a bad agent trying to act like scott boras and its not happeneing. " We are not going to be bullied" he says. who does he think he is the president? yeah i bet the rangers and mets gm's wanted a friggin tag team match. excuse them for wanting the agent to make up his mind less than a month before spring training starts. whatever, mets good job, marlins and orioles good luck with your new "star"

Please don't say hat the Marlins have this great starting pitching. AJ Burnett is always hurt. Beckett had one great post season thats it. He did nothing last year. After that Willis is a 500 pitcherat best. Al Lieter is good but fadding fast.
I do love Mota as a setup man. Who is there closer? David Wright has more upside then Mike Lowel. Reyes will be great. If you don't think Beltran is not great you did not see last years NLCS. Who do the Marlins have who is as good of a five tool player? Are you a Marlins fan? The GM for Delgado is full of Sh**. The Mets never pulled out. He also made a stupid comment saying the Orioles wher as good as the Mets and not that far off from contending.
What is he smoking? They have one good starter and did nothing in the off season. Delgado can go to Florida. He is not a team guy. He wants all the lime light. Maybe he can learn some respect and stand for God Bless America! Sometimes the best deals are the ones we don't make. Get Travis Lee and get Mags with an incentive based contract. Move Cameron or Floyd for pitching prospects.
