Re: Delgado NOT going to be a Met..
hey pdiddy - congrats on getting Delgado.. this really should make a great division.. you're right.. the Mets in the past went on "reputation" & spent money foolishly.. however, this year, they needed to pick up Pedro & Beltran to prove to their fans that they want to compete.. i know it was alot of money for an "aging" pitcher & an outfielder who is just coming into his own.. i'm actually glad Delgado didnt come - we need a more defensive minded 1b man - Lee or Olerud will suffice.. i hope they can swing a Cameron deal to the A's not only for Byrnes, but for some BP help.. while they have only 1 ws championship in the past 19 years, they have been to 2.. & the last time they were halfway decent, they had the "gold glove infield" with Ventura, Ordonez, Alfonso, & Olerud.. i am confident if they get a glove man for 1b they will be fine (ps - keep Floyd)
1) Reyes
2) Matsui
3) Beltran
4) Piazza
5) Floyd
6) Wright
7) Cameron/Diaz
8) Lee/Olerud/Doug M.
9) Pitchers Spot (aka automatic out)
I could live w/ that lineup - some pop, more speed, & a few contact guys.. i like itComment

I've got t say, and bear in mind I don't like the Mets nor the Marlins but when comparing lineups, that lineup on paper doesn't look to be as deep as the Marlins.Comment

Re: Delgado NOT going to be a Met..
when you have the "heavy lumber" like the marlins do now, sure it is better on paper that the Mets.. Reyes for one has yet to stay healthy (which is why i wish they could trade him for soriano). Matsui seemed to do better late in the season, getting a better idea on what pitchers throw, etc.. Floyd, if he stays, can sure sting the ball all over the park.. Piazza, who actually may be in his final year as a player, should be good to go.. Wright played very well, Cameron, well, uh, he hit the ball sometimes.. sure they wont put up the power numbers like the marlins.. but Shea is really not a "hitters" park at all.. my main concern is getting a starter through 6 innings - cause there is a lack of BP (they still have Roberts who did pretty well at the end also).. but i'll be giddy if the mets make the .500 mark this year.. Defense was a killer the past several years.. hopefully they will be better this year.Comment

I really like Cliff Floyd, would be nice to get a full season out of him. The guy can flat out rake. Cameron served a purpose with gold glove caliber defense in CF, but with Beltran moving in, he's no longer needed, I would think.
In Doug M. you don't get the traditional corner infielder production, in fact he only hit .238 with 6 Hr's in 391 AB's last year, but he has shown the ability to hit around .300 in years past. And he does come with gold glove defense at 1b.Comment

Thanks it was a great signing. Finally a power left handed hitter that we needed down the stretch last yr. Yeah I know you guys had to pony up the dough to land some high profile guys to prove you can compete. It's gonna be a wild NL East for sure. I guess by midseason or at the end of the season we are gonna see whos signings were good, and whos backfired.President of the Devils Den
