This extra inning **** is so unbelievably dumb.

      Just. So dumb.

If the Brewers take the lead, why the hell do the Pirates get an automatic runner too to help them out in their attempt to tie the game and potentially extend the game longer than it may have gone anyway? Like, what???

How does this make sense? How does any of this make sense?

Your point doesn't make any sense.

If the Brewers take the lead in regulation, then the Pirates don't get a runner. If the Brewers take the lead in extras, then they would've had the benefit of having a runner start the inning on 2B. Wouldn't it make sense that the Pirates get that advantage, too?

I mean, I guess that has to be the justification if we're viewing it as "every team gets a possession" kinda thing, right?

Didn't even think about it that way considering that train of thought has zero place in anything involving baseball, lol.

I'm split on the rule. I don't like the artificial nature of it, but I do like that it might lead to an increase in situational hitting/awareness.

I have a feeling I know what the strategy on both sides will turn out to be, I am intrigued to see how some of the more creative coaches attack the situation from an offensive and defensive perspective.

I actually don't mind the rule as I believe it has the potential to bring small ball/fundamental hitting back into a game that has drastically swung to homerun or strikeout outcomes for at-bats.

Carlos Martinez returns to the rotation tonight to face the Twins.

                          Let's see how this goes.

At the close of yesterday's action, we're at 138 home runs.

We're slightly above the pace of last year, where at the end of the 4th full day we were at 134.

But again, there were 3 games that weren't played yesterday, so who knows how far above the pace we actually are.

Maybe they should consider playing small ball any time there's a runner on second base.

And in pre-2020 NL games, there wasn't any problem with small ball around the pitcher's spot.

Lurking variables that make this hard to compare to are:

                                1) We're now in the summer instead of starting in the spring (ball will be livelier).

                                2) Many players are likely not in the same early season form as they normally would be because of the reduced preseason, especially hitters (I'm guessing a lot of pitchers got to throw some on the side this whole time).

What I have found really perplexing is the amount of blown saves there have been so far, though. The crowd must really play a factor in these games more often than you'd think.
