That was nice and tidy...1-0 Mets win in just over 2 hours. Fun game...shame there's only 59 left.

The Jays vs Rays game feels different but looks the same. No fans at Tropicana as usual lol, but the audio board is making it louder than a regular Rays game (in a good way).

And interesting defensive shift vs Biggio. Rays had 4OF AND another IF who is basically in the OF as well, so it's basically 5OF against Biggio.

If I'm a player like that, I'm working on my bunting game and just bunting the ball to 3B for a double.

And one difference that'll be hard getting use to is that it'll be harder judging if a ball is going to be a HR once its hit. Usually you can hear that instant crowd pop on those deep balls, but now you won't know if a ball hit is going to the OF or over the wall until it happens.

And Yandy Diaz is wearing a mask all game, except it's not even covering his nose at all.

ESPN be like: "We are finally going to give a **** about baseball because it's literally the only sport playing right now."

But we all know what will happen when the NBA, NFL, and NCAA return.

Not on the last pitch, but he whiffed on strike two.

I hate this "swinging up" crap. Level out more, boys!
Stupid hitting down 1, but that is baseball now. Either hit a HR or strikeout.

So the person playing the graphics in the stadium is different from whoever controls the crowd noise.

The graphics person had to play a "make some noise" video on the screen to signal to the audio person to turn up the crowd volume.

Players today don't care. Braves had a runner on 3rd with 1 out and Mets brought the infield in with a shift on. It left the left side of 2nd completely open because of holding the runner on 3rd. Hitter still tries to pull the ball and hit it right to the shift.

Bunt or push the ball to SS and you get a RBI, but nope I'm still going to try to pull the ball.

I honestly think the cardboard cutouts help fill the emptiness void pretty well. It would be very interesting to see if they ever decided to fill every seat in the park with them (or at least to a reasonable amount so certain players and personnel could still sit/operate where needed).

And as many here know, I'd definitely like to see restrictive shifting as to not make an apparent mockery of the sport.

I was wondering, and this may flop/be creepy if they tried, but I wondered if a network could basically add the fans in from previous games. IOW, people watching TV would see them, but stadium would be empty to people there. Would change the atmosphere...although would be odd if the fans aren't reacting properly to the game.

Some guys having fun with no crowd.

Foul ball hit to Rays 3B coach. He picks up the ball and motions to the "crowd" that he's throwing it to them.

On that note, even if fans were there, the net all the way around will now eliminate this interaction?

I don't know if it's that simple to do live, especially given all the camera movement involved. Perhaps it's also a breach of privacy, but you would only need to cross that when you get there, which they wouldn't be able to from a technological standpoint.

I've also seen the virtual fans in soccer games, and it just looks uncanny and stupid.

I wonder what that will be like for fans, especially kids. One fun part of sitting front row was the possibility of getting a foul ball.

I feel like we'll see it one day.

One of those "creative/obvious" strategies some manager will implement to go against the shift and eventually it leads to less dramatic shifts.

They still toss it to a ball boy who feeds it under the net.

But anybody who is anybody knows that a ball caught is tenfold more exciting than a ball handed.
