They moved him to the leadoff spot last year, and he's been garbage ever since. When he's not leadoff, he actually gets some wood on the ball, but if he's ever first in the lineup he just has no idea what to do.

Alex Cora started the expirement last year, and for some reason Ron Roenicke is continuing it.

      What's going on in Buffalo?

Marlins up 8-0 at one point, they're now up 11-9. Jays have 5 home runs.

It's only bottom of the 7th.

That was murdered. I'm not sure I've seen a ball hit there before.

            Nutty game. 11-11

Jays have hit seven homers, some monster shots. Have homered in six straight innings which is a Jays record.

After all this, Jays better win it. Coming back from down 8-0 is crazy. I think MLB record is down 12, but 8 is still a lot.

IIRC Jays still hold record for most home runs in a game at 10. The way this is going, they could have a shot at being in 2nd place too.

                  You jinxed them. LOL

Apparently, the upgraded/new lights are really being enjoyed by every bug in Western New York. They've come from all over and descended on the stadium. Looks really rough for the players.

                    Re: 8/3 - 8/16 Game Discussion Thread

So Matt Olson hits one about as far as Bonds did when Tim Salmon said "That's the farthest ball I've ever seen hit," yet no one bats an eye. Know why? Juiced balls desensitize you to the long ball now. It wasn't the farthest ball ever hit to begin with, but it was definitely impressive back in the day.

Going to check the Soto home run. I didn't see it yet.

EDIT: I'm not going to explore that too much, but I'm not inclined to believe a ball down the line went 500 feet. I don't know if you can even hit a ball 500 feet down the line.

If you're enamored by where it reached, sometimes people see it reach a certain area and naturally assume it's farther because it did, when height was the biggest factor going for it. People swear that Canseco's bomb in Toronto went 540 feet or something. Try and not tell yourself that "it reached the upper deck" is the reason for that, because a ball on a line that falls short of that upper deck is likely to have traveled farther in comparison.

Anyway, Citi Field's second deck in right field is not that far out from the right field wall. It basically hangs right over it. For a ball to go 500 feet down the line, it would basically have to clear the fence by two base path distances. Keep that in mind. Now in your defense, what you can't see on TV is that Citi Field's second deck patio is massive, and goes far back. I don't know what part of the patio it hit, and that's what makes it tough to judge. It's almost one of those cases where I'm actually more inclined to believe Statcast is all.

Just played with Google Maps a little bit. After watching the video and seeing where its second hop hit, I think the ball hit up on the patio cement about 400-ish feet away from home plate. Considering that patio is probably about 60 feet up, 466 feet seems like a fair estimation.

SECOND EDIT: And freakin' MLB Tonight is playing in the background while I'm typing this and I'm watching Sano and Buxton flip the ball out of Miller Park like it's nothing. I'm seriously becoming more and more unimpressed by the home run ever since they started juicing balls.

Phillies calling up top prospect Alec Bohm. Hopefully means one of the trash heaps of Rhys Hoskins or Scott Kingery go away.

Did anyone else just see what happened in the Nats-Mets game?

So these are two consecutive pitches.

This first pitch is called a ball. Stephen Strasburg was arguing from farther stadium seats and got ejected.

The very next pitch is even a hair lower and is called a strike.

I'd be fine if the pitch was even a hair higher and the umpire calls it a ball, just so he stands firm on his point. I'd be fine if what happened just happened but Strasburg wasn't ejected. What I don't appreciate is the umpire ejects Strasburg, and then he proves Strasburg's point with an even lower pitch!

                            Why is Strasburg ejected??

He’s ejected for arguing balls and strikes.

Players on the bench arguing balls and strikes is typically an automatic ejection

I get it, but if it's built upon a nonstarter (for example, an umpire realizing his mistake), it just peeves me a little bit.

I know why he's ejected, I just don't know why he's ejected if you get what I mean. I'm asking a little more rhetorically.
