Meh, boo on that called strike three to Acuña. Note this is not an endorsement for wanting robot umps. I'll take this over robot umps. Hell, I don't want that strike zone on my bloody screen either.

Anyway, I'm frustrated with the Braves offense right now, but I'm certainly not worried about it. If our best two sparks so far have been Travis d'Arnaud and Pablo Sandoval, then you know we have some bright days ahead.

    Now, let's go d'Arnaud!

Umpires have to stop rewarding catchers flopping.

It's getting absolutely impossible to watch this sport. Feels like I'm watching soccer and basketball. Football is starting to have flopping issues too (see end of 2021 NFCC for example).

      Pathetic.

Impressed by Davies today. Very Hendricks-like approach (when Hendricks is good, not what we saw on Opening Day). Over 100 pitches after 5, so he's probably done.

Edit: I REALLY misread this. 63 pitches - I was looking at total pitches/strikes as though it was strikes/balls. He's still going VERY strong.

Aaaand jinxed. Moran 2-run HR makes this a one-run ballgame. The funny thing is I wouldn't have even posted about how he was doing if I thought his day wasn't done.

When the Jays first traded Donaldson for Merryweather I was not impressed.

I know it’s still early but that trade is starting to pay off. Keep it going Julian!

I'm not sure what to take from that series. The Reds can hit, I guess?

Davies doesn't escape the 6th but the Cubs do escape it with a 1 run lead.

It's 3 games so not much really to get too high or too low about, but the Cardinals need to do a better job of hitting with runners on base.

And yes, at least for the series, the Reds can hit.

I wouldn't mind seeing Schildt shake things up in the lineup and either move Goldy to 3rd and Arenado to 4th, or Goldy to 4th and leave Arenado at 3rd in the lineup and possibly move DeJong or Carlson to #2 in the lineup.

                  I would run out:

                  Edman
                  Carlson
                  Arenado
                  Goldy
                  DeJong
                  Molina
                  O'Neill
                  Williams (Bader when healthy)
                  Pitcher

Tatis just hit a ball halfway to SDS Studios. Going to go for naught though as it only broke up a D-backs shutout in the 9th.

Braves/Nationals game for tomorrow has been postponed.

Its believed they will play Tuesday

So, how does this work for the Angels later in the game if/when Ohtani leaves the mound? They just lose their #2 spot in the order in front of Trout and will have to pinch hit each time like the NL?

I also find it amusing that Joe Maddon is the one who gets to make this call.

                            Yes

When Ohtani leaves the game, the pitcher must hit. Apparently Maddon has told his long relievers to prepare for this for a few weeks by taking BP.

They could move Ohtani to the outfield and replace a fielder to keep his bat in the lineup, I believe.

At the time it just felt like they dealt Donaldson for some random guy who might fill a spot if lucky.

Donaldson only had 1 great season since his final season in Toronto, and now seems like he won't be able to stay healthy.

Merryweather being a solid power arm in the bullpen sounds great.
