While true, this is ultimately a silly argument to make. If they are seriously so worried about the players' health then they wouldn't allow teams to play doubleheaders on back to back days, and also make one of the teams travel in between those double headers.

It's not a consistent vision to make a drastic change and shorten games to 7 innings so it is less taxing on the players, then also allow your scheduling to result in a team playing double headers on back to back days which is incredibly taxing even with 7-inning games.

It just shows yet another example of how the MLB hardly thinks anything through all the way and is not consistent with what they aim to achieve. If your main priority is truly the health of the players then there is no way you allow a team to play 4 games in 30 hours.

At the very least MLB should have the ability to swap out ESPN games so the Braves could have played their two games early Sunday afternoon and then traveled to NY at a decent hour. I’m not sure what else MLB could do besides move yesterday’s doubleheader to their next series in NY in late July but they’re already playing one doubleheader that series and it would give the Mets 19 games in 17 days

It's almost as if MLB scheduling has and continues to be hot garbage. Is it still that same old couple that has been making them by hands for ages?

The MLB scheduling is outdated. The scheduling needs more structure to it with built in blocks every X amount of time that is there essentially for makeup games.

There's no reason the MLB should continue to force unneeded limits on the scheduling process that result in the jumbled messes we get annually. Stretch the season out another couple of weeks if you have to. Get rid of these ridiculous stretches teams go through where they sometimes play 35 games without a day off. Structure the schedule in a manner that allows every team a day off per week. Structure it in a way that allows for flexibility for when games are needing to be moved dates, generally because of weather.

I've never quite understood why baseball enjoys having such a terrible scheduling system when it can be fixed and it isn't rocket science.

Jays signed George Springer to a 6 year 150m deal and he will make his first start in the OF for the Jays tonight and bat 5th.

You know it’s going to be a bad night when you’re using a pitcher to pinch hit in the 3rd inning. Hopefully the Strowman injury isn’t serious

Wander Franco makes a splash in his debut - his 3rd AB is a game-tying 3 run HR.

I’m going off of what I heard from the Mets broadcasters but apparently there is some sticky stuff drama in the Philly and Washington game. Girardi asked to have Scherzer checked and then Girardi got ejected later in the game for coming out of the dugout and wanting to fight Scherzer

He was checked by the umps after the first (protocal) and then Girardi asked to have him checked again in the third and the fourth in the middle of the inning.

(Tonight I learned a manager can ask for a check).

None of the three checks found anything and apparently a manager can continually ask for a check with no repercussions for being wrong.

So no, not a sticky stuff situation, just a crappy overall situation.

According to what the Mets broadcasters were saying, there are repercussions for having the umps do unnecessary check but I don’t know how you’d ever prove it

Wouldn't you prove it by doing three checks in four innings and not finding anything?

Franco coming to bat in a walkoff situation unless the two guys in front of him end the ballgame first. That would certainly be an exclamation point on this debut (he doubled after the HR).

Groundout to the pitcher. Semi-productive out as it moved a runner to 2nd, but is the 2nd out of the 9th.

Managers can have pitchers checked? But But doesn't this add unnecessary time to the game. I thought we were trying to speed up the game nor slow it down[emoji19]

Nice to see Jays win again, but that Yankees sweep really stings right now.

They really need a big win streak to get back in WC contention.
