Re: 2021-2022 Hot Stove Thread
Yankees fans really drive me crazy on social media. they expect to have singed all 3 SS stars because they have 'money' if they have a look at a team in their division called the rays.. who have spent less. and made moves like a INF the rays would be seen as a 'genius' move. the team has only been winning the east the last few years with low payroll, and the yankees are over 500 every year and make the playoffs most years and competitive.
Then when they do sign Stars like Stanton, they are booed to death if they go 0-4 lol. it must be a tough franchise to support.
if the team mentally changes their thinking instead of blaming everything on Boone and Cashman they would be up there in the East.
I mean the Mets dodgers and Padres have been going crazy in free agency and the Dodgers have won 1 world series out of the 3 in being a 60 game tournament year.Comment

Or…and hear me out…they could actually spend money and try to field a winning team.

Interesting the Sox are going to put Story at second and keep Xander at short. Story 2019-2021 UZR/150: 5.9. Xander 2019-2021 UZR/150: 1.4. Maybe just to keep him happy and not opt out of his deal after 2022.Comment

Re: 2021-2022 Hot Stove Thread
Everyone remembers Bobby Bonilla but nobody remembers the Braves having Bruce Sutter. The Sutter contract finally ends this year when the Braves will pay him $9.1M.
When Bruce Sutter signed with the Braves before the 1985 season, he agreed to a deal for six years and $9.1 million. Each year, his Braves “salary” of $750,000 was just an interest payment on the money, roughly 8 percent interest, which means he still got paid in 1989 and 1990 despite being retired. Then for 30 years, the Braves have been on the hook for $1.12 million every year, and in 2022, when Sutter is 69 years old, they owe him a balloon payment of that $9.1 million. All in all, it’s over $47 million for a pitcher who delivered just 40 saves for a team that averaged 96 losses per season.
Whether it's smart financial planning, readjustments due to bankruptcies or a sports owner falling for a Ponzi scheme, there are crazy long contracts and inexplicable deferrals in every sport. Let's look at 32 of these deals — one for every year the Mets will write a post-retirement check to Bobby Bo.Atlanta Braves

What cracks me up about the Orioles is that instead of trying to pitch better or get better pitchers they're made their ball park bigger in an effort to give up fewer homeruns. It's the weirdest flex ever.Atlanta Braves

Yep, Braves (on paper) look better than they did last year.
Also, for all the talk over the years about the Braves never spending money, blah, blah, blah, Braves currently have a payroll over $180M with their luxury tax payroll at nearly $210M. So, I think folks need to kill the "Braves are cheap" narrative.Atlanta Braves
