Not that there is any truth to this, but I saw a Cubs blogger who suspected that this could be more of a smoke screen leaked by the Mets to try to get the Cubs to lower their asking price on a Contreras/Robertson package

Marte was their top prospect, #18 overall I believe. Should be ready for next year. Arroyo has been rising fast, I believe he cracked the top 100 (both were SSs for the Ms)

Stoud was a 3rd rounder, so I'd say thats a pretty good haul.

They didn't include Kirby, Brash or Hancock.. thats a win as far as I'm concerned!

Marte wasn't going to unseat JP Crawford anytime soon.

Gold glover, one of DiPotos first deals, one of the few guys the Ms have committed to longterm.

I'm sure they were content to give a little here for a coveted arm.

I thought DiPoto would have to give up Kirby to make this deal. I'm ecstatic.

I guess if Stoudt hits, this could be a disaster. But they didn't give up Hancock either, who is supposed to be ready for next year. Nor Brash who just has freakish stuff, IF he can put it together.

Not sure what more M's fans can ask for? Not like they were gonna fleece Cincy with all the top suiters beating down their door.

.. I'm curious what their pitch was for Ohtani. The Ms went hard after him once he was posted to play in the US. I can see why Ms fans would have preferred that deal. But I suspect the asking price was MUCH higher.

They're going to have to shut Kirby down soon as well. He just hasn't built up the innings with the Covid year. This move allows them to do that.

Not an expert on the Mariners farm, but giving up both Marte and Arroyo seems like it could hurt a bit, but I dont think it's a massive overpay. Castillo is the real deal. And I believe he is controllable through 2023, no? I guess the Mariners preferred to hang onto their young arms.

Hopefully this signals it's a seller's market so the Cubs can keep loading on young talent [emoji1696]
