I don't like rewarding teams that don't win their own divisions. I don't like it any sport. If you can't win your division, then you get stuck with the cons of being a wild card team. This series would have been significantly devalued if both teams already clinched spots above the Cardinals.

But I'm not basing my feelings on just this series. There are 162 games in a year, all teams within the division play the exact same schedule sans the 4 games vs the intraleague rival. If you can't take care of business in your division then I don't personally think you deserve anything other than the wildcard.

      Not good news for Jays.

Game tonight might be rained out.

If so, tomorrow I'd imagine would be makeup date, except tomorrow is supposed to be worse weather than today in Baltimore.

Wednesday is only other date for a game, and that seems horrible to have a doubleheader 2 days before a playoff series (yes, I know Mariners have one on Tuesday).

At that point, if they already clinched 1st WC, I'm trotting out the bench guys and scrubs in the pen.

I don’t think he gets a “huge” deal; everything I’ve read is he’s in the 5/$75-$90M range and I think that’s totally reasonable.

How is Jays game not being called?

Through 6, rain coming down heavy, fans gone from their seats.

Just end it now and do everyone a favour

Edit-Umps randomly decide to now delay the game. It's been the same for a while. Could've postponed it quite a while ago.

The Braves lost today and the Mets got rained out. The most Mets thing possible would be for the Braves to lose tomorrow, Mets sweep the doubleheader, then waste a deGrom start Wednesday while the Braves win and clinch the division

Unrelated to the Mets, Pujols needs to stick around a few more years and go after 762

Pirates win again, still at 99 losses. Another downer of a season, but would be funny to not hit 100

                Brewers lose, Phillies clinch.

                So NLWC will be
                Mets vs Padres/Phillies
                Cards vs Padres/Phllies

Small sample sizes for the most part, but I'd say Padres might prefer Mets, Phillies might prefer Cards?

Still scoreboard watching AL side, Mariners win means it's all but guaranteed to be Jays vs Mariners in the WC. Mariners lose and Jays clinch home field in WC (but Rays still have small shot to catch Mariners)

Edit-So, Brewers came back at the very end...but Phillies winning too, so this will eventually be valid.

Judge has cooled off. Stanton is heating up.

He has cooled off, but I also wonder if there is anything to the special balls being used for Judge ABs. They're ONLY used for his ABs, not just regular balls in circulation during the night.

I doubt it. Think he's just been trying to hard. It's a burden till you break it. Didn't help teams started walking him 3 or 4 times a game. Lost his rhythm. Only sees one or two good pitches a game.

With Phillies win, Tigers and Angels now officially have the longest playoff drought at 8 seasons.

Like I said in the NBA thread, it's actually cool seeing such a small number being considered the longest drought. We've been used to seeing 15+ year droughts for various teams for years.

Albert Pujols is hitting .321 (.386 OBP) with 18 homers in 55 games since the all-star break.

Before the break he was hitting .215 (.301 OBP) with six homes in 53 games.

That's an astonishing turnaround for anyone, nevermind someone who is 42.

                                Some interesting news here.

Baltimore has lots of rain, more than yesterday (where it still took umps forever to call it).

Sounds like the MLB plan is that if it doesn't happen, it won't be made up since it has no impact on standings.

I'd prefer that. An extra rest day, then tomorrow the Jays can roll out White and Kikuchi to eat 4 innings each no matter the score.
