Originally posted by Rag3vsW0rldReally, this one pitcher drafted out who thought he was a big shot held out for more money, refused to sign with anyone he drafted and now he's out of baseball. It was a few years ago but I can't remember his name. I'll see if I can look it up.
BTW, you are correct, Boras is his agent. One reason why the Padres didn't go after him.Comment

Originally posted by Rag3vsW0rldIndeed he should've done that, but sometimes people get to greedy and try to get more. I don't expect him to get picked high this year nor do I expect him to get the same amount offered to him.
I could make a case that Weaver is the best player in the 05 draft. His selection at the 12th pick wasn't based on his performance but rather his signing bonus demands. The Angels knew Boras was going to ask for the moon but they selected him anyways.
Weaver has 3 above average pitches (curve, change, fastball). He has freakish control of the strike zone. There's a strong chance he's going to develop into an ace.
It's looking like Weaver and Drew are going to re-enter the draft which makes it deeper and better for clubs picking at the top.Comment

Re: Angels End Attempt to sign Weaver
I'm glad the Padres only have one Boras client, who's future with the team is uncertain (Xavier Nady that is). Anywho, thanks to whoever brought up Matt Harrington, I couldn't think of that guys name. I'm surprised after playing indy ball he wouldn't sign into a team's system... gotta scratch your head for that.
As for Weaver, asianflow he may get picked early, but not earlier than he was last draft.Comment

Re: Angels End Attempt to sign Weaver
Boras and Weaver are a joke. This guy hasn't played one ML game and is asking for this amount of money, pretty pathetic.Angels World Series Championships : 2002
Rams NFL Championships : 1945,1951,1999

Re: Angels End Attempt to sign Weaver
Exactly, unlike Football and Basketball, there are no guarantees whether a first rounder will be able to contribute to the big league team he's drafted to. It's ridiculous how much the number one pick should be able to get in baseball (Matt Bush was an exception, 3 million is a lot cheaper than what others would've commanded).Comment

If you look at the first two picks in the draft this past year, it's pretty obvious that super agents and the whole issue of "signability" are ruining some small market team's chances of restocking to the best of their ability. Verlander has some potential and a great arm, but he was no Niemann, Humber, or Boras's Weaver. But if the Angels can't sign Weaver, the Padres and Tigers sure couldn't.Comment
