DBacks currently in WC race. Should they miss the playoffs, it would be the first time since 2007 that both teams who made the WS missed the playoffs the following year.

On the flip side, I wonder the last WS we had where neither team made the playoffs the year before.

This year it would need to be Padres or Mets vs any AL team in the playoff race that's not Os or Astros or Twins

I imagine it hasn't happened in the WC eras that both WS finalists the year before missed the following year while the 2 finalists that current year both missed the playoffs the year before.

Worst case the Mets are heading to Atlanta with a one game lead. I would have signed up for that at the start of the four game series vs the Phillies while the Braves get three against the Marlins. Acuna's brother has been crushing the ball since being called up

I'd have to double-check, but I think 2007 was the last time this happened.

2007 World Series: Boston over Colorado, neither made the 2006 postseason
2006 World Series: St. Louis over Detroit, neither made the 2007 postseason

In case anyone's wondering about AL wild card tiebreakers...

Twins>Royals>Tigers>Mariners* in any 2-way, 3-way, or 4-way tie

*If Seattle and KC finish in a 2-way tie with exact records of 87-75, then the M's go through; in any other scenario, Royals>Mariners

Sox with a very important series against the Twins, playing a double header today.

Alex Cora got tossed in the 1st inning of Game 1, Triston Casas responded with his first ever 3-HR game, and the first for the Sox in two years.

White Sox have now tied the 1962 Mets with their 120th loss, the 2nd most in MLB history next to the 1899 Cleveland Spiders*, and most in AL history (2003 Tigers finally not in the record books)

Look on the bright side, the Mets would win the WS 7 years later and the Tigers would make the WS just 3 years later.
