Allegedly Yanks offered $760, so why didn't he re-signed? Did we not offered an opt out and/or wanted to deffer some of the money and Soto said no?

Anyways, time to re-focus. Those are 8 Wins Above Replacement that have to be...well, replaced.

For this to be worth it to the Mets they had better win multiple World Series.

Total yes, not annually though. Ohtani is technically worth $70m a year. He just got less years because he’s 4 years older.

And Soto is worth that much. Why? Because teams say he is and you are only worth as much as someone is willing to pay you.

                        Some simplistic math:

Fangraphs values 1 Win Above Replacement at $8.037 million.

                        765/15 = 51M per year.

51/8.037 = 6.35 WAR per year to break “even”.

This year Soto was worth 8.1 fWAR, a career best. His next best year, he was worth 6.8 fWAR.

Soto is 26 years old and should still be in his prime until anywhere around 32 to 34ish. Of course, with these contracts you don’t expect the player to be fully productive throughout the whole contract and anywhere from 1 to 5 years are already accounted for as “dead years” and simply the cost of doing business.

Due to his main skill being getting on base (“eye”) and not relying on athleticism, he would be expected to age “gracefully”.

Ohtani is a unicorn (one of the few times in sports where the term actually fits). If Ohtani and Soto were to stay healthy for the rest of their contracts it is unlikely Soto will ever win the MVP. But to be fair, if Ohtani stays healthy, no one else has a chance either.

This signing being done should open up the Winter Meetings and provide some excitement.

Soto literally has no protection in that projected Mets lineup….so good luck Mets fans with that contract.

He will not come close to living up to it. Figure slightly above his 2022 combined season with the Nats and Friars. That will be the norm…..

As a die hard lifelong Yankees fan…..don’t let the door hit you on the *** on the way out. Now we can move on and get some pieces.

How about Alex Bregman? Yeah he would look good in pinstripes. Maybe pick up another rotation arm and resign Torres.

The Hot Stove will finally begin.

                                Dear Yankee Fans

Your past is no longer your mystic. You are also encountering a new world. You no longer control the market for the best players. You will now be outbid by the Dodgers and Mets if these teams want that specific player.

                                As you were;

Thank you for the Christmas gift Mr. Cohen and bring more presents
