Re: Did McGwire Hurt His Chances for the HOF??

Seeing that Selig said and i'm paraphrasng "I need absolute evidence before I wipe records away" yet he doesn't want to investigate

Anywho seeing that MLB won't investigate McGwire will probably go in the HOF but it won't be a first ballot induction like I previous thought.

Yea I dont see 1st ballot either....I dont see any records being wiped away either...too much uproar from people if it did....probably cause for harm than it already has...

Selig Thinking right now...."Damn Im going to have to answer a steroid/congress related question everytime I'm interviewed for the next 6 months...Why cant the season be over already"

That's interesting cause I do think it will be 1st ballot.

He definitely hurt the public's perception, but I don't know how the vote will go down. When you have notorious cheaters like Gaylord Perry in the hall, I think it is obvious that McGwire will make it. It will be a strong 2007 class with Ripken and Gwynn.

Re: Did McGwire Hurt His Chances for the HOF??

I can't see McGwire making the HoF at all now that we are in a era of inflated HR's. Regardless of his steroid contraversy, I still don't think Big Mac is HoF because comparing him to other 1B's in his era, he is just better than average, not a HoF.

                        No MVP's
                        8th on HR's record [583]
                        1 Gold Glove
                        Average BA

There are plenty of guys that will approach Big Mac's 583 HR's that will not be HoF'er either.

Aside from his 70-HR year he didn't make an impact that a HoF'er should make.

Roger Maris isn't even in the HoF and he has the non-asteriks HR record.

Are you trying to be funny? In 1996-1997 he had over 50 HRs in each season. In 1998 he had 70 and in 1999 he had over 60. Id be curious to know if theres a better span of 4 years in the history of baseball. Plus his lifetime HR: AB ratio is better than Ruths. If you want to call it tainted join the club but to say he only had one good year, OMG, I almost dont want to believe you are serious. Plus he has the most HRs ever by a rookie playing in a stadium thats very unconducive for HRs.

                            Jeff Bagwell had a high of 47 and 34 / 162 games.
