If people really think he did steroids, how can they accept putting him in the hall of fame. Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe are both much better than McGwire ever was, and aren't in the Hall of Fame. While Joe damaged the game much more than McGwire did, Pete Rose never betted against his team, and did not severely negatively impact the game like McGwire has done. How could Mark McGwire hug the Marris' while knowing he was cheating to break Roger's record. Roger Marris was tortured when he was making a run at Babe Ruth's record so he could have his own record broken by some cheating, steroid injecting, monster? Every baseball fan has to question the numbers of the past 15 years, because cheaters such as McGwire and Bonds have tarnished the game. Baseball needs to take a stand to gain back respect from its fans, and for itself.

You sit and talk about all this cheating and distrust yet you actually believe Rose never betted against his own team? Why? Because he said it in his book after LYING TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC by saying he never cheated on baseball!!! Come on man....

Why name call....the guy was great for the game and if not for him and sosa 'homerun race' the game may not be where it is today as far as fan support an interest in the game....He may have tainted a RECORD but not the game....

Maris' was tortured because he was a Yankee breaking one of the most cherished Yankee/Ruth Records ever!!! Maris was tortured because Yankee Fans and media didnt consider him a Dimaggio, Mantle, Ruth...A true yankee player...He was a country boy that didnt have a great relationship with the media...kept to himself...And because of that, Yankee fans were not keen on him to begin with and didnt see him worthy enough to break ruths record...thats the reason why he wasnt treated well (tortured)....On the other hand Mantle at the time of the 'Homerun Race' was being applauded and encouaged to break mantles record....because he was the ideal yankee'

Why is GAYLORD PERRY and PHIL NEIKRO.....notorious cheaters in the game and kown cheater at the time of their induction admitted to the HOF?

Baseball fans need to question everything in the past 15 years? only 15 huh....why not the last century....Baseball has had its issues with not only roids in the 90's-80's, but amphetamines in the 60's-70's and into present day along with throwing games in the early 1900's....You would have to take a look at the entire century....be realistic you cant have any corporation, sports league, or anything for that matter that hasnt done some sort of cheating, or finding an upside to increase their game or profit....

Or take Ty Cobb and Tris Speaker out, depending on which way you look at it.

McGwire did not cheat anymore than George Brett's pine tar. It wasn't against the rules. The pine tar was. Now, a question on wheter or not it was good for the game, or good for himself, is another story. If you're gonna take the "illegal" route, we better kick Ty Cobb out right now. If "the Integrity of the Game" is an issue, take Tris Speaker out, burn down Ty Cobb's plaque again, and not even discuss Peter Rose as having a valid arguement. So, I don't see how you could have a valid arguement against McGwire, unless you think stolen bases is the only merit into the Hall of Fame or some BS like that.
