What are some cities that could support an MLB team?

This was inspired by the DRays to Montreal thread.

Heres are a couple to start of:

    Las Vegas
    San Antonio

    Possibles:

Buffalo-- back in the day Buffalo was kicked around
Charlotte--Is it too close to Atlanta and or Washington?
    Jacksonville--assuming the DRays move
Indianapolis-- Not even sure what their population is but they support the Colts and Pacers
    New Orleans-- see Indainapolis

I have never understood why pro sports have shyed away from Vegas. I'm sure its because of the gambling, but I dont understand the concern. Players make way too much money to be tempted to fix games. It is easily the largest city in the country without any major pro sport.

Top 2 attendance minor league teams are Sacramento and Memphis. Those two would see logical.

Do you think either of those teams would cannabalize attendance of other teams? And maybe it doesnt even matter but the owners get uptight about this.

how about a second team in Boston ?
I still say that MLB should consider Montreal ...with a new stadium downtown .( the Exps drew alomst 3 millions a year in the 70's and 80's

I thought about that but the difference between now and yesteryear is that the cities fund the stadiums now whereas the owners used to finance the stadiums back when Boston had two teams if im not mistaken.

I don't know how close Sacramento is to anywhere, but Memphis is 5 hours from St. Louis, 7-8 from Cincy and Atlanta. Don't think it would be a problem.

You can scratch Jacksonville off the list. This isn't really a "pro" sports town period. It's definitly a college football town (Gators, FSU, Georgia Bulldogs, and Canes mainly).
But its all football over here, and they are having to cover up seats in Alltel Stadium because of the lack of attendance for Jaguar games, which I am pretty happy about that because most home games over here are blacked out.

If Memphis had promised to build a new stadium, Jacksonville would have never gotten a team!

I always thought there should be more baseball teams down south, like Memphis, New Orleans, or Charlotte.

You guys just don't understand how much I'd love to have a ball team in Charlotte.

Your city has voted down an uptown ballpark the last 2 years. Your minor league team also averages 2k a game this year with some of the cheapest tickets in the world.

I can't believe I'm relocating there for my wife! However, I will be at some Knights games. 8 bucks to sit behind the dugout, cheap concessions too.

Sacramento is 80 miles from Oakland and 90 from San Francisco. There has been talk about the A's moving there, and the current AAA stadium could be expanded to around 40,000 if the need is there.

Now that I think about it, Charlotte-Atlanta could be a pretty hot rivalry.

Maybe they voted down the uptown ballpark because of the Bobcats' new one?

I don't know what it is, but Charlotte has seemed to never show interest in a baseball team.
