I hope Tito doesn't stick Kapler in there every couple days like I expect him to. I like Kapler, but Wily Mo is looking pretty good. Just stick him in the 5 hole and let's see what this kid can do.

I was reading the game recap on ESPN and here is what Francona said.

"Tek fought me on it a little bit," said Francona, who gave no indication about how much time Varitek might miss. "I'm just trying to be cautious."

So hopefully it's not that bad since Tek wanted to come back in.

I hope so, but at the same time if they're having an MRI it very well could be serious. Let's just hope not.

Now I just read that Javy Lopez is asking to be released from the Orioles...if Tek's out for any serious amount of time Theo should get the phones working and work a waiver wire deal here.

I think Javy can still be one of the better offensive catchers in the league, but if your not going to miss 'Tek all year then forget about it. Javy isn't going to play 1st, DH, or catch once 'Tek returns so it'd be pointless.

While I agree I think Mirabelli being the only catcher for this team for an extended period of time is going to be a catastrophy.

This all depends on how long Tek is out. Which none of us know.

Mirabelli can get it done if he finds that stroke he had in '04. He was easily the best backkup catcher offensively that year and then trailed off the past two. Like someone said, he's really getting warm this month so maybe he can carry the load for another month if need be.

That being said, I am in no way comfortable with him starting for an extended period of time.

                Surgery required for Varitek:

He'll be out at least a month, I would think, if not longer.

Just got home, MLB.tv is not working again, so can't get the game. Great.
Varitek needs surgery, Ken Huckaby who was hitting .205 in AAA is now on the Sox. Great.

                      Oh man this sucks.

And just for fun, our trade deadline acquisition of Bryan Corey just let up a Pesky Pole homer facing his first batter...

Better pitchers have given up a Pesky Pole shot. If Corey can improve on Tavarez's 5+ ERA he'll be serviceable.

Johnson settles down nicely and gave the Sox better than a quality start which is pretty much all you can hope for. Unfortunately, the timely hitting has been absent, and the one time it has come through the Sox got hosed on a call at home plate.

I'm not a PETA person but someone could have moved the bird off the field. It was obvious it was injured.

Papi is the tying run now

I'm not feeling it with this team, fellers. This pitching is not good enough to win the division. I'm afraid the Yankees will take it once again in '06.

The team right now has a serious 2002 vibe to it. I have no idea why, but that's just what it feels like to me.
