We just had the biggest collapse in baseball season history and this is "the resources that it will take" to make me forget about it?

Well to be fair they were not going to bring back LoDuca and since Posada did not get to the open market this was the best they could do. There are not good market for trading for a catcher anyway and I think they are saving all resources they have to get a starting pitcher and some bullpen help.

Why aren't we bringing Lo Duca back? The Count was a great catcher these last couple of years. Plus, he's a good clubhouse presence!

So you give $4.5 - $5 Million to Torrealba? Take a look at his stats, especially away from Coors Field. He's also got a bummed throwing shoulder.

And speaking of pitching. They're showing interest in Livan Hernandez and or Carlos Silva?

Yea, these players are making me forget this past season.

he was banged up, plus he probably rubbed some office types this year with some comments he made...

Yea, these players are making me forget this past season.

Whatever "big moves" the Mets make...it's not going to be through FA signings.
It's going to be through trades if it happens.

I'm somewhat worried Knight about what they may do. This team is not young, and the cries after the debacle was to get younger. I hope we don't mortgage away some of our blue chippers for the exhorbant prices teams are asking for pitching. The only pitching I could think of that I would trade multiple young talent for is Santana, Haren, or Peavy. I still suggest putting Heilman into the rotation. What is with them being against that?

I've been an advocate of putting Heilman in the rotation for awhile. We're pressed for starting pitching, so what's the harm in seeing if he can actually start?

I'm kinda torn on this Torrealba signing. I think I'd rather just have Castro start, if this is the road we were gonna take. In a perfect world, I'd rather have Lo Duca behind the plate, but I think he pissed off a lot of people, Willie in particular. If half the team had the fire he had, we wouldn't have blown that lead in September.

The problem with Yorvit is that I think a player of his caliber (i.e. pretty mediocre) could be had for a lot less. I think focusing on catcher is missing the big picture.

The Mets bullpen stinks and was the #1 reason this team choked- if Omar doesn't address the pen, he just doesn't get it. Instead, he wastes money on cheaters (Mota) and scrubs (Schoenweis).

I will agree that I'd rather have LoDuca back.
How long before Minaya sends David Wright, Sean Green and a pitcher to Florida for Miguel Cabrera so he can have a FULL latin team?

Torrealba is as good as Charlie O'Brien was

so I don't see why we even pursued him for a three year deal. We gotta have someone in the orginization that's ready to step up...and yes...Castro would be fine IMO.

Now, the thing about Heilman....and I think the Mets just don't want to show their hand in case they want to trade him....is that I don't think the Mets(and I have my doubts too from what I've seen of him) believe he could be effective more than once through the lineup. I fully expect to see him in a trade deal(probably for a latin pitcher !

) this season.

I trust Minaya and his ability to spot and put together talented baseball players, so I'm going to hold off on my opinion on the Mets "off season" until he makes some moves.

I have no idea why the Mets bring in a Catcher that will be an automatic out in the lineup AND can't throw out any runners!!! My goodness....come on! Lo Duca is a good guy to have on the team...he's one of the few guys who has the fire in his eyes and plays balls to the wall every game. How many games has he gotten banged up AND stays in the game?? Hardcore.

RE: Heilman. He was a starting pitcher back in '05. I remember he threw a CG SO vs. Marlins in April '05. I know he wants to start with the Mets, but the Mets don't want him to. Honestly, if you watched him at all last year, even at the end of the year, it looked like he didn't even want to be pitch or be on the Mets period. Plus, he looked like he added a few pounds. I hope he does better next year.

Yeah...our Relief Pitching is a joke. Mota and Scho-Time have used 'roids in the past and are not dependable. Duaner Sanchez is...out there. Ambrixious Burgos is a no-show (I REALLY want Brian Bannister back!). Joe Smith looks alright, but you never know about sophomore slumps. Jorge Sosa did well last year....except for the fact that he was over-used when he converted from a SP to a RP.

And we need to get rid of Delgado. He's old and brittle; just look at last year.

Plus, we need a Hitting Coach that makes sure our young guys run out grounders or flyouts, and are not lackadaisical on the basepaths (here's looking at you, Reyes!).

I really don't know about the Mets in 2008. I guess it'll be Deja Vu all over again...

if heilman is on the mets next season i will pick a new favorite team. im serious. i hate him. i dont want him to start,releive, or clean the clubhouse. send him to AAA or to the devilrays.
