you know...I gotta laugh at this...Isles...can ya stop the madness?

You know damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn well, if the Mets had signed Colon or Hernandez most of the fans or so-called fans that one gets to hear on radio, read on online blogs and in the tabloids, would ABSOLUTELY complain about why they signed these guys....

the one thing Loshe has over Colon is that he's been healthy his whole career. Colon has battled arm and shoulder problems for the last two seasons. Talk about an unknown! Be careful of what you ask for.

IF Colon is healthy and can pitch a whole season without going on the DL, we all know he can be VERY dominant...but when guys throw that hard with that semi-hard follow-thru, ya keep your fingers crossed.

Regarding Hernandez, going by those that hog the airwaves, write on blogs and vote in polls, THOSE Mets fans (or so-called fans), DON'T want Hernandez either. The first thing out of their collective mouths: 'He's too old!'

PS..before anyone who reads this muses about or tries to put the TIRED spin on 'why the Mets didn't go after Mark Prior', listen up.....Prior said out of his own mouth the other day that there were more lucrative offers from other teams INCLUDING the Mets. So, if we connect the dots, we know why he signed with San Diego, right? He PREFERRED to be CLOSE TO HOME

PSS: Let's not be silly, Minaya does NOT deserve to be out of a job...that's sheer foolishness...

I just don't care for the fact that they say they are trying to improve the team because they too were disappointed with the collapse last year... and the only thing they have managed to do well is raise ticket prices... don't talk about the big name pitchers, only to be now looking at the "chopped liver" of those out there... it just drives me mad..

on a side note, we should send Shea out this year -- get an "OS Day at Shea" outing with all the OS Met fans...

"Beat the Mets, Beat the Mets. Head to the park and beat the Mets!!! Hot Dogs, green grass, all at Shea! Guaranteed to take your money away!"

        - I hope the Mets get a pitcher, preferably named Hernandez or Colon. We need somebody who can eat up innings (why didn't we keep Traschel last yr??).

        - Most def in for an "OS Mets Fans Day" at Shea!!

AI...I got a question for you? And I'm serious....are you REALLY a Mets fan? Or are you one of those phony pseudo-fans? I ask because you mentioned two things that raise an eyebrow for sure.

          1) Bartolo Colon...someone who can eat up innings? Ha! I like Bartolo like many, however...as I alluded to in my previous post, he's coming off of almost two seasons of arm problems...Are you REALLY confident HE (Colon) will eat up innings? Hmmmm

          2) You too, need to stop the madness...Trachsel?!?!?!? You ACTUALLY wrote: "why didn't we keep Trachsel last yr??..."

AI...Get real...were you paying attention two seasons ago? Did you see how he GAVE up in the most important game of the 2006 season? I'll refresh your memory:

          TRACHSEL'S 2006 CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES RECORD

          0-1

          45.00 ERA

          1 game; 1 game start

          1 IP

          5H

          5 Runs (all earned)

          1 home run

          1 srtrikeout

          and

          FIVE WALKS!!!

I wouldnt take his *** back either!

That's part of the reason Glavine won't be back...didja see what he did?

Hey Boss, lemme tell you something: I've been through the good and bad. You really don't need to question my loyalty to the Metropolitans. Really.

            1) We do need a starting pitcher that can eat some innings. Whether that be Colon, Hernandez, Lohse, etc, we need someone. Do you really trust Pedro's health? As of this moment, the Mets have not made any additions to their SP staff.
            2) Yeah, I saw that scoreline too for the Trash-man. He did go 15-8 in 06. Considering we gave away Bannister for Burgioux and had Pelfrey goin out there and losing 6/7 in a row, I don't see how that would have been a bad option. He would have been a nice complement to the staff, or even a long relief pitcher (Kinda like Darren Oliver). Yes, I understand we made a good acquisition with Jorge Sosa, but he got overused at the end of 07.

Re: Tom Glavine's meltdown. I was there personally. Best tickets I've ever had (for free, nonertheless). Got some nice pics of the game too. Kinda depressing when after 30 minutes, the Mets are down 7-0 and the crowd is absolutely dead.

If there's something I'm missing, lemme know.

              @ AI03

I've been through the good and bad too...a lot longer than yourself, but sometimes we have to keep it real.

YES, we do need someone who can give the team INNINGS...but what makes you feel Colon is the one?

When the Bannister trade was made, it barely caused a blip on the radar...Bannister hadn't proven anything at that point. And to be fair...real fair, the trade LOOKS totally lopsided. I say 'LOOKS' because this season will tell many if Bannister is the real deal or not.

Pedro's health? Actually I DO trust his health, there have been more than a few who have come back from the surgery he had. And keep in mind, providing the team (hitting) does it's thing, unless he's got a 1-hit, 12 strikeout game going, Pedro does not have to even go 8 innings. In my opinion, he is STILL the ace. He's the only Mets starter as I type this who had mastered the art of 'pitching'.

              Glavine? LOL

I was in my car...on Tillery St. and Flatbush Ave. in downtown Brooklyn...listening to the game on radio. I KNEW he was in trouble when after getting ahead of Hanley I believe 0-2, he nibbled, and nibbled and nibbled...until he walked him. Then Uggla singles. It was driving me crazy. When he HIT Dontrelle in the bottom of the first, I turned the radio off.

Re: 2007 New York Mets Discussion

I think Bannister would have been a nice fit in the rotation for the future. He got into a lot of trouble early in 06 (I distinctly remember his game vs. the Giants where he would get out of some crazy jams).

I think the Mets still need to bolster both their SP and RP. Every year, Heilman complains about not being in the starting rotation. Last year, he looked really bad on the mound. Plus, he looked like he packed on a few pounds...

I wish the Mets woulda held onto Count Lo Duca and Milledge. I think Milledge has some upside, and he brought some fire to the team (in both pos and neg ways).

But, like anything, hindsight is always 20/20. Thus, the life of a Mets fan.

And, IMO, if the Mets actually acquire Johan Santana, I wouldn't be suprised if they overtrade, and end up raising prices again! But, most def looking forward to CitiField! It's looking really nice driving by! Definitely hitting up the 7 for some games at Shea this year as much as possible.

                  @ AI

Yeah, Bannister was doing the Doug Sisk act on the mound...getting out of seemingly impossible situations with no out and ending up with no runs scoring. He may or may not have panned out...no one knows for sure. But this year will be a pretty good barometer in terms of who he really is.

No one can argue that the Mets need to solidify their pitching staff. At this time, I'm not gonna trip, because Duaner Sanchez WILL be back and Juan Padilla, who pitched really well until his arm injury will be back healthy too.

Heilman...you know what AI? MOST fans REALLY need to shut the flock up about Heilman. It's been what....three seasons since he's started and fans are STILL crying for him to start? Please....his record was nothing close to spectacular. I find it dubious that most baseball fans...males...get their drawers in a bunch when athletes are PERCEIVED as being selfish...and not going with the team concept. Yet, Heilman KEEPS getting a pass...

Those silly fans cry "he WANTS to start", "he's better as a starter" (outright lie), "he's pitch better if her started, but he's frustrated and is taking it to the mound". You know what? If that's the case...trade his behind....period. See ya!

LoDuca, in my opinion, sealed his fate with not only his off-field transgressions....the gambling and the alleged underaged female...but in that game back in May (?), when he went beserk with an ump and then pushed Randolph out of the way to get at the ump...he was done.

Milledge...I'll say this...and I'm gonna keep it REALLY real. I talked to an ex-MLB player (white) about a month ago..and I told him that I've followed Milledge's career VERY close from the git-go, and I was CONVINCED that between many in the media, talk-show hosts and the thousands of callers...he was the victim of character assassination. A black athlete that was convicted of nada in his past (the allegations were unfounded), the stupid ire he drew after hitting that game-tying homer vs. San Francisco when he slapped hands with the fans along the first base line, the so-called 'rap music' issue...he produced the music, but folks were literally acting like he was Ice-T in his heyday. I mean, do folks pay attention to the walkup music that many of today's athletes have playing?

I'll take Jeter for one..."That's That" by R. Kelly & Snoop

So...to all those (not you AI), who now pine for Millege to be here, I'll say this...be careful of what you complain about. When he was here, too damn many fans (or so-called fans), did NOT want him here...doesn't matter if they were following a talk show hosts' lead, or if they were 'piling on' with the hundreds of other callers...bottom linehe's gone. And he got a RAW deal here. I hope he absolutely flourishes in D.C.

Johan Santana...hmmm....my gut tell s me that they won't acquire him before the season starts. But I kinda feel that if Johan starts the season with the Twins and the twins hit the tank, the Mets will try damn had to get him by the trading deadline.

Hey LoDuca sure is a ladie's man!!! just listen to his walk-up music w/ the Beegees! Yeah, he was dating underage women, but still had some fire in his gut.

Re: Aaron Heilman. Gotta love that CG SO he threw in Mid-April 2005 vs. FLA. Great game!

Re: Milledge. I remember that game in 06 he hit the HR and was high-fiving the fans. Really would have liked him to remain a Met. Hopefully Martinez and Carlos Gomez pan out.

Re: D. Sanchez. I'm looking forward to seeing him pitch. Hope he comes to ST actually wanting to, and not having to be counseled by Willie.

It might also mean Gomez. Pagan would be the RH bat to compliment Church. Maybe the Mets and A's could be finalizing a Blanton deal that will include Gomez and Humber.

according to Minnesota newpapers... the Twins said that they want Martinez (the minor leaguer) as a player in a deal for Santana (so far according to sources, there are already 4 minor leaguers in the proposed deal (which would be cool since Reyes would not be dealt at all)... of course, Met officals are saying that this isn't true, that the Twins haven't backed off the demand for Reyes...

                                Re: Santana to The Mets?

I was listening to Charlie Steiner's show on the Home Plate Baseball channel (XM 175) this afternoon. One of his guests was the Minnesota Twins beat writer. The guy said as much. And again, that whole 'Reyes is likely to be dealt' stuff was pure BS. How are you going to trade your, by far, most dynamic player? Trade him for an All-Star caliber pitcher who at the MOST, can help you ONLY every FIFTH day?

Made no sense...it's just amazing how fans suck up on so much BS

Many Mets fans forget....Reyes wasn't the NUMBER ONE problem, that title went to their PITCHING.....

Anytime your team can average 7 runs a game (Mets in September), and its NOT ENOUGH, then that's a wake-up call.
