    Re: 2008 Cincinnati Reds

I think the thing is with him, he doesn't want to be traded again and really wants to stay. So, after all the trade talks start up, he has pitched really good to show the reds that he can be usefull. If only he can pitch with that attitude every start every season...but this good performance could always lead to a trade anyway because the reds might want to sell high on him.

Trading Harang would be a mistake unless the Reds dont plan on winning over the next few years, especially for Victorino and prospects.

I saw that and almost turned the TV off. It's like telling the other team "hey, we're not really gonna try today."

Ah geez, same old story. We approach the .500 mark and then we drop 4 straight. What a freaking surprise. These Reds are the most frustrating group of players ever.

Yeah, hopefully we can break that streak with the red hot Arroyo starting tonight, but it can always go horrible with him on the mound.

I am about one complete drumming from giving up on them for the season. I don't mean that I think they have a chance to make the playoffs, I mean I will give up watching or caring about them for the year. I just can't take this team's inability to pitch well, hit well or defend well. Truly pathetic.

Agreed, we need to get rid of Fogg somehow, he's just terrible. Harang is having a bad season, he did get screwed over at the beggining of the year by the team not scoring any run for him, and is injured now. Arroyo is impossible to figure out, one game(well many games) he'll give up 5 homeruns, then he'll just start to baffle hitters and hopefully he can stay hot. Volquez was great, but has struggled lately. Bailey is just pretty bad, he did have to pretty good starts then he got rocked. "Stormy" Weathers seems to be back this year after a pretty good year last year, he's been pretty good sometimes but recently he seems to have done bad. Coco has blown about 6 or 7 saves I think, I still don't know why we signed him, last year he had more blown saves than Weathers. That's just some of it, I don't feel like going into everything.

Well, I didn't really see the game, but look which Arroyo showed up. I really think it's because he's not pitching his heart out so he can stay with the team because he's confident he's staying, I did see a report yesterday that he is off the trade market. I mean it's just speculation by me that he pitches better when he wants to stay, but it's hard to ignore. I really don't know, I hope he does good the rest of this season, as well as the rest of his years here, but I just don't see how he can help make this team win, he's way too inconsistent...but I can't control it so I'll just have to stop worrying about it. On the bright side, he did have 1 rbi tonight.

Arroyo was doing fine until the 5th when he gave up the slam to El Caballo. He made a few bad pitches tonight and the pitch to Lee was one of them. That inning he was cruising with 2 outs until Kaz Matsui had a great 10-pitch at-bat before lining a single up the middle. He was on 3B when Lee hit the GS, if that tells you anything. We;ll see how he pitches next time out. He's pitched well since getting lit up in Toronto.

Okay, I was wondering what happened to him, because I saw that he didn't give up any runs the first two or three innings, but I was switching back and forth between the cubs and reds games and stopped watching the reds game for a while.

Who would you suggest that they should have played in CF last night???
For those of you that dont know Griffey was "suspended" last night for his throat slash thing he did to Brantley. That leaves 3 OF's on the roster, Dunn, Bruce, and Patterson. Freel, Hopper, and Hairston are all hurnt, who else was Dusty suppose to play in CF last night.

The owner was on the pregame show last night on 700 WLW and they asked him what he thought of the whole Griffey Brantely episode and he said it was being taken care of tonight (last night). This lead everyone to believe that Griffey was "suspened" by the team last night.

For those of you that dont know what happened, a few nights ago Griffey half assed a fly ball that was hit to him in the second inning. He should have been able to catch the ball, but he jogged in and let it drop. Well Brantley called him out on the radio and said it was a horrible effort and that Griffey should have caught the ball. Well someone from the clubhouse informed Griffey of what Brantley said.
In the 4th inning Griffey hit a HR and as he was crossing the plate he pointed at the Reds radio booth and gave Brantley the throat slash and yellled FU to him.
The next day Marty said Griffey owed Brantley an apology but as of yesterday he still had not done anything.

                        Thoughts??

I think that's quite funny actually, because he hit a homerun to piss off Brantley and then does the throat slash thing. I probably would've done the same thing if I was JR...I mean it doesn't make it right that he half assed a ball in the outfield but maybe it's just me but I find it comical.

I dont think you understand what happened.
The HR didnt piss off Brantley, where are you getting that from?
JR was pissed off because someone finally called him out for never running hard!
So after hitting a HR he yelled FU and gave Brantley the throat slash gesture in front of the whole crowd. Nothing JR did was right at all!

I guess it's just me but I don't have a problem with what he did, I mean O don't support it but it's going to happen so I don't really care. I mean haven't we all known that Griffey doesn't hustle for the past couple years, it's not news to me. Yeah Brantley called him out, does that make it official that he doesn't hustle, no we've known that and he's gone after this year anyway. I do wish he hustled but when you are as big as he is, he can't do anything wrong and someone finally pointed it out, and he got pissed. I'm not going to sit here and argue about it, but to me it's just not a huge deal.

As a sports fan how can you not have a problem with it. This is exactly what is wrong with most Cincy fans, we are use to the nonhustling and losing and we except it.
