I hope to GOD that the mets pull the trigger and have some type of mini fire sale. heilman, delgado specifically need to go, and I would like to see O Perez, schoenweiss, and castillo shopped at least. I would also like to see a few young guys get a shot this summer. say august to end of the year id like to see F. Martinez playing.

I think Castillo and Perez can stay. I agree on the rest.

Wagner BLOWS Another Save Tonight

Thank God MLB teams, their magagement and managers do NOT ever manage and/or make player moves for the fans.

With that said, let me say this:

for the last 2-3 years, too many fans, so-called fans and dissenters...who don't understand or know the difference between 90 pitches (as in an EASY 90) by a starter and 90 PITCHES (as in a STRESSFUL 90) by that same starter ought to be quiet.

Tonight...Pelfrey pitches lights out through 8 innings. Pelfrey was allowed to start the top of the 9th after throwing over 100 pitches.

Pelfrey gets in trouble and Wagner comes in...gets 2 outs and then gives up a game tying, two out, two strike, 3-run BOMB to Mike Reynolds.

All of those yahoos and know nothings would have railed against Randolph no matter what, if he removed Pelfrey after 8.

Randolph lets Pelfrey start the 9th and he gets in a little trouble with two baserunners on.

Wagner comes in and blows it...

This is why those phony 'pitch-count' experts need to shut up...period.

not disagreeing with you but pelfrey left with 1 on. drew was on first. he had 3 pitches in the 9th only.

as for tonights game 1 word. unbeleivable.

If memory serves me right, Wags got on Ollie's case because he gave a piss poor effort a day after the bullpen had been depleted due to an extra inning game... I'd like to hear some sort of mea culpa from him, since the game was well in hand (down to the last freaking strike), and because of the 3 run homer, we gotta dip into the bullpen for 4 more innings after being used for a rain delay last night.

But I digress; great job outta Beltran. Wags should be buying him dinner for saving his hide.

Even though the Mets won last night management has further ammunition to fire Willie. Here's a couple quotes from a scout who's watched this situation that i've found interesting.

"The players have the look of, 'Hurry up, let's get this over with. If you're going to fire him, fire him,'" says one rival scout who saw the Mets this week.

"There's not the desire to save the guy's job. They realize the guy is going to go. It's like, 'Hurry up, let's turn the page."

BTW Willie seems to be a rather submissive manager

According to the New York Daily News, Randolph apparently was prepared to pull Pelfrey for a pinch-hitter in the eighth, but the pitcher talked him out of it.

"I started to go up there to hit, and they told me I was done," Pelfrey said. "I was kind of mad at the time because I wanted to stay in the game and I wanted to keep pitching. He came up to me and said, 'You want this?' And I was like, 'Yeah, I want it.'"

Pelfrey had not pitched into the ninth in any of his 28 previous career starts, and had worked at least seven innings only three times. Randolph could have lifted him after the eighth, or even the seventh, and Pelfrey still would have had reason to be happy with his outing

This hardly qualifies as breaking news... Willie has been on the hot seat ever since last season ended. If they needed further ammunition, it would be dumb to do it now, not to mention a P.R. storm. They should have done it after that meeting at the end of May.

And I hardly think that a scout's writeup is indicative of a team's true feelings... It's like me watching a married couple through a window of their house and suddenly coming to a concrete conclusion about the status of their marriage.

If the team was 10-15 games over .500, Willie wouldn't be a "submissive" manager, he'd be a "player's manager"... Funny what a record can do for perception.

Banter for the sports column, nothing more.

Anyone can say the players "look" like that and him allowing his young pitcher to potentially go out there and solidify a complete game because he "wants it" doesn't qualify him as submissive.

Hardly interesting, LOL.... We've been dealing with this ever since last October.... The only thing that makes news now in baseball, other than the Rays' improbable start and Josh Hamilton becoming the best reformed crackhead in history, is a manager on the hotseat.... If said manager happens to be in a large city, where they have already had a monumental collapse, even better... Basically, it still boils down to Willie being on the hot seat... *yawn* In other news, man has walked on the moon, and it has been determined the sun is hot....
