That's what I got from it; maybe not necessarily "didn't like" Willie, but maybe they had some issues with him in the past. Probably someone like Jose Reyes, who didn't like being called out by Willie in the past.

I think I'll avoid ESPN's Baseball Tonight; the last thing I need to see now, is Steve Phillips on there with his smug self as he watches this crap play out in Flushing... I might punch a hole through my TV.

yes, they reported that some players said that. To be fair, last week when Randolph was asked about that, he said, and rightfully so, when you look at baseball teams through the ages...there's no 'guaranteed' anything. He said there were managers who all players liked, but had horrible managerial records and vica versa.

Ya, Randolph was what's wrong with the Mets...you can see how the change has already motivated those Mets in the 1st against the Angels...please.

I was thinking the same thing on my way home from work.. I shut it off when Hunter drove in 2 to make it 4-1

BTW - any word on Pagan at all?? Seems he fell into some sort of time vortex.

                quick questions for Mets fans

                1. What's with all the hate on Carlos Delgado? The man can't help it that the team paid him big bucks in his declining years. He's still a pretty good bat so it's not like he's complete crap but every time I hear NY types speak about him they act as if he's the worst hitter alive. Hell, I just heard on a show two guys suggesting that the Mets should get Richie Sexson to replace Delgado!

                2. Do you guys share the views of the NY media toward Delgado? I mean what are your opinions of the guy?

                  Re: Carlos Delgado @ SPTO

                  There are a few things:

                  a) when word got out that he ALLEGEDLY did not want to come to the Mets originally...only to be traded to the Mets the following year..all it took were a few knuckleheads columnist and talkies to drum this in print and on the air...and like most things sports-related, many listeners simply don't know when to let shyt go...

                  b) the UTTER NONSENSE about him not standing for God Bless America...PLEASE! His reason...well justified, was in response to (at the time) the U.S.'s continued bombing in Vieques, PR...for testing and war drills...an area where in fact, native Puerto Ricans live on the outskirts.

Most of the hypocrits that acted like they were soooo God-awful upset over him not standing, were the ultinmate FAKE, PHONY, FRAUDULENT, wannabe patriots....

                  c) his production had decreased...and a lot of times, he doesn't hit in the clutch...although there were NOT many first basemen in ALL of MLB in 2007 who were more productive overall than he.

                  d) his defense is ok...range not great at all, but there have been a number of times where it looks like he didn't want to dive for balls to his left or right. On the other side of the token, he's literally SAVED David Wrights inaccurate, throwing *** more times than I can count with his short-hop, scoop up on errant throws.

No! I am a grown man who NEVER lets the media, idiots, gossip, innuendo and know-nothings sway me. One always has to exorcise good sense, clarity of thought and always to make sure one look at the big picture...

Unfortunately, NYC is FAST becoming the city of IGNORANT baseball fans....they literally treat a 162-game season as if it was the NFL (16 games) season....

Can someone tell me what Tony Bernazard's actual function with the team is? Because I'm reading a lot of stuff with his name mentioned very prominently, and none of it is flattering. This dude sounds like he's far more trouble than he's worth.

he's the A-1 assistant to GM Minaya, but IF...and I repeat, IF all that some of us are hearing and reading is true, it s-e-e-m-s that he has a propensity to spend a lot of time with the players in the lockerroom.

One thing that was mentioned was that he was seen talking for some time to one of the players in the dugout recently (seen on TV) -- not really where they should be I guess.

I agree...bad enough if he's in the lockerroom, but in the dugout? No way!

another story has it that Tony, since he was a "union guy", was trying to block a trade for Millar because he was a replacement player several years ago

                                yes, I heard that too...please

I am a 'union' guy..but one with common sense...meaning, that if someone crosses a pciket line, I never assail them for what they do because they already know what may come to them for doing it...and no one has a right to judge/gague/dictate someone's situation.

It really is time that those in MLB that still have hangups from '94(/) get over it....

I remember Franco and Leiter would never totally embrace/forgive some players that crossed the line. I guess mainly because they were the Mets union delegates...when in fact, some of those that did cross, played better than their non-crossing asses...LMAO
