Except Peavy is a strikeout pitcher. Plus, if PETCO Park helped him out so much, pinpoint where in 2004, 2005, and 2007 do the splits show otherwise? 2006 and 2009, this year, like I said, WBC. Last year was the only true year you could point out such a split.

Drinkin the koolaide again to make it seem not as bad as it is.
Worst team in the league.. This team is a disgrace and an embarrassment to the city.
Petco park sure turned out to be a good investment didn't it? This was the kind of thing that was supposed to be a thing of the past if we built a new stadium.
1993 all over again. Only a matter of time till Adrian is gone. Maybe they should call the Braves and see if Melvin Nieves is available again.
I wouldn't be surprised if Adrian isn't a Padre in the offseason. 1) He's tired of losing, 2) He's a competitive player, 3) the Padres won't pony up cash to retain him. If he's signed to an extension, he'll be traded before hand like Peavy.Comment

Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread
In 2004, 4 given up at Petco, 9 on the road.
2005: 12 at home, 6 on the road
2007: 5 at home, 8 on the road.
Given the fact that Petco's BA on balls hit deep is almost .130 below the league average, I'd say that's going to affect him until he gets used to how to pitch there.Through music, you can live forever...TEAMS: San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres, Notre Dame Fighting IrishComment

Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread
What did I say that implies I'm "drinking the kool-aid"? I know this team is horrible (hence my statement about the team not going anywhere).
As for Bell and Adrian, I'd be surprised if both of them stay in uniform through tonight.
Meanwhile, Towers announces that Richard will be making his first start as a Padre tomorrow night.
Again I ask, why did we build this ballpark? Wasn't that the motivation behind building it? To not have anymore firesales?
Disgraceful, disgraceful team. Welcome to being the Clippers of major league baseball.Comment

Haven't you heard BK? Moores's ultimate goal before finally giving up majority ownership to Moorad's group is to attain the elusive payroll of zero.Comment

Good Padres debut by Clayton Richard today. Although right now I don't like the Padres winning (can you blame me?).Comment

Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread
I'm a little late on this one, so I'll just put my opinion out here instead.
With the Padres not ****ing up and signing Donovan Tate, Everett Williams, and Keyvius Sampson, it makes up for their inactivity in the international market this year as well taking a step in the right direction that if they're not going to sign free agents, put the money in drafts and development of players.
Obviously we won't see them for several years, and here's to hoping we have a first round pick that for once becomes a stud. The lower levels of the farm look very good on potential, now develop that potential to something useful.Comment

Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread
Honest question. Not trying to hate or anything, but is there any reason to believe Gonzo will be back? S.D. was ready to ship him out to the Dodgers of all teams, but we wouldn't give them what they wanted. I honestly don't see him in S.D. much longer.XBL: DTX3

Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread
The pitching is very suspect right now. They need for Latos and Richards to step up and hope that the rest of the rotation can at least be decent.
Ownership cut so much payroll that the Padres are pretty much rebuilding from scratch, so it will take some time to build them back up.Comment

Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread
Obviously Adrian Gonzalez wants to win and he has stated it numerous times in the UT, even to the point that he admitted that he's a "defeated man" this season. It really is dependent on how things turn out the next couple of years, but I'm not sure what Adrian's current contract status is with the Padres (I think he's signed through 2011, but I'm not sure). I actually wouldn't be surprised if Adrian is traded, but the smart move would be to build around him because Kyle Blanks can't replace Adrian's defense and finding offensive players who can succeed here has proven to be tough.
My honest opinion, Adrian is a Padre until 2011, then either an extension is worked out if the Padres return to relevancy in the West, if not, he's traded.Comment

Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread
Like I said in the Gnats thread, the Padres won't do anything until at least 2011 or 12. While Gonzo and Blanks are going to be beasts, they have a mediocre lineup at best.
The pitching is very suspect right now. They need for Latos and Richards to step up and hope that the rest of the rotation can at least be decent.

However you may have to include Will Venable, he's surprising the heck out of some fans who criticized him for being too old and not having anything to offer. The Padres definitely need to decide on which on to keep, Headley or Kouz. Headley still has "potential", both players have very significant home/road splits, and is younger, but Kouzmanoff right now has the better offensive production and better defense.
The pitching, yes it is. The Padres have no ace and it is really dependent on how Latos, Poreda, Gallagher, and Inman develop. Richard doesn't project to be nothing more than #3 at best and Chris Young will likely never see better days on the mound anymore. The bullpen however, should still be good, but relievers fluctuate. However, Towers seems to have a knack at finding guy out of nowhere.Comment

Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread
Yeah Venable has been surprisingly solid. I am not sold on Headley, he may be good but hey may not. More than likely SD will get a good pitching prospect out of the draft next year, and hopefully ownership will care enough to where this team will be able to stick together and build something.Comment

As for Headley, I'm not sure what to expect out of him. He produced in the minors and had a decent rookie season, but this season he took a step back. I would prefer we trade him rather than Kouz because Headley is what he is right now, potential and lacks a position on this team given that we have better outfielders displacing him.
I'm interested to see what Moorad's group can do. Obviously they needed to show fans that they were willing to change the philosophy of the draft with picking Donovan Tate and signing Tate, Everett Williams, and Keyvius Sampson (when we traded Peavy, fans expected that not signing one of them would be a failure).
They have some pieces to work with next year, but with a lot of room for improvement. I hope they can trade Bell, as they don't need a closer if they aren't in any position to compete for the NL West and in the playoffs.Comment

Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread
lol at the Padres PR department
"San Diego, CA - The San Diego Padres today announced the club's schedule for the 2010 Championship Season."
"Interleague play in 2010 will take the Padres to Seattle (May 21-23) and Tampa Bay (June 22-24). San Diego will host the Mariners (June 11-13), Blue Jays (June 14-16) and Orioles (June 18-20) at PETCO Park as part of a nine-game Interleague homestand.
Next season's slate features a three-game weekend series against the Dodgers, May 14-16. San Diego will also host Los Angeles July 27-29 and September 6-8. In addition, the Padres will be home for the Fourth of July (vs. HOU), Memorial Day (May 31 vs. NYM) and Labor Day (September 6 vs. LAD)."

Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread
The San Diego single A affiliate Fort Wayne Tincaps tonight wrapped up the Midwest League Championship by sweeping Burlington 3 games to 0. The Tincaps finished with a 101 and 48 record which is the best in all of minor league baseball this year and for awhile this season they had the best record in all of professional baseball.
I got to go see a couple games this year and there is some decent talent on the roster. James Darnell, Sawyer Carroll, Jaff Decker, Dan Robertson, Blake Tekotte, Erik Davis, Brad Brach, Simon Castro, and Anthony Bass all looked to have the potential to make it up to the majors in their careers and possibly have solid careers while there. I know I will be following these players to see if they can make it to San Diego.
The best thing is though the team knew how to win and played together well as a team throughout the season which should bode well as they move up the San Diego farm system. You can't under estimate what winning can do to the development of players.Comment
