They walk Ortiz to get to Manny, and Manny smacks his 2nd 2-run double of the game

      I didn't make it up...and I',m glad I didn't.

Every station seems to be down (ESPN, NESN, ESPN2) at school...which sucks. Oh well, at least I didn't find that out at 6am.

Moss and Manny seemed to have a good game, sounds like Dice-K, as usual, struggled and then settled down...and Okajima is picking up right where he left off.

didn't make it, and I'm glad I didnt. Dice-K looked like crap early. Hopefully today was a sign of the season, and he throws his change-up more

Manny stood at the plate so damn long in the 10th....but he is a bad man

I had to leave for work after the 9th, but damn, what an opening game. It had everything (except a decent start time). I bet MLB is quite pleased with how well it went and hopes for more of the same tomorrow. I'll be up bright and early (more like dark and early, actually) to watch Lester take the mound.

Even if the bullpen blows it...

What a ****in' start by Dice-K tonight. Seriously...if this is a sign of things to come, and hopefully it is and that first start can be chalked up to nerves about pitching in Japan, Dice-K is going to be 100million well spent.

And the bullpen holds, with Papelbon looking like the Paps of old striking out the side in the 9th.

              Great game.

It was a real nice game tonight.

Dice-K had a real strong outing, even though they should have let him finish the 7th. And Pap came in and just shut it down.

Considering Barry Zito was signed during the same off-season, if Daisuke can even pitch as well as he did a year ago for the length of the contract it will be money well spent. He's throwing the ball well right now though, but he'll need to cut down on the walks if he wants to sustain his success.

I'm so far happy with the start of this season (with the exception of Lowell coming out of the game tonight, hopefully it's nothing too serious, could be the left wrist). Obviously could have done without a sweep in Toronto but hopefully they can make up for it. This lineup should hit, and the rotation looks good, my only concern is middle relief right now. I feel like someone from the crew of Delcarmen, Aardsma, Corey, and Timlin should be able to emerge as a reliable innings eater with Pap and Oki anchoring the back-end. If Colon can contribute I wouldn't mind seeing Buccholz get sent down for a bit just to manage his innings total early on this year.

Nice series against the Tigers, 2 outta 3 works for me.

And now its time for the Yankees. I like how our pitching lines up, should be interesting.

Sick outing from Papelbon tonight. After having to wait over 2 hours due to rain delays, to come in and strike out 3 of the 4 guys he had to face was pretty impressive.

                                Re: 2008 Boston Red Sox

One trend that I am not liking about the 2008 Red Sox are the alarming amount of walks being issued across the board. Since there are younger guys on the pitching staff this year it's a given they're going to issue more free passes this year than last, but damn they're taking it quite far. CB is the young guy still learning how to pitch, but Daisuke and Lester are notorious nibblers that are going to walk a lot of guys, but Daisuke was putrid tonight. It was a real step back from his last two starts where he was setting guys up with his fastball and then going to the breaking stuff. Tonight, like much of last year, he was pitching backwards and the results were poor. Even in his good outings this year, he's walked too many and drives his pitch count way up too early. 15 walks in 23 innings and hasn't made it to the through the 7th yet. It's likely Beckett will be counted on to go 7 every time out because this bullpen is going to get a lot of work especially early in the season.

Someone who has yet to join the walk parade though is Delcarmen. He's had a few ups and downs already, but has yet to issue a free pass which is good to see. Aardsma could stand to learn something from him.

At any rate, good homestand going 4-2 against two teams expected to compete for playoff spots this year. And now for an odd two city, four game road trip. The schedule has really been stupid so far this year across MLB.
