Re: 2009 Atlanta Braves
It sucks that the pen blew a game we should have won, but we still took 2 of 3 in Philly and if you told me we would do that to open I'd be thrilled. It's a long season and we're going to lose some, but this better not happen often."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Boyer sucks, I personally don't see this "potential" to be great like everyone else does. The guy hasn't done jack since his rookie season.Comment

Re: 2009 Atlanta Braves
I think you do have to give props to the offensive side of the ball though....its good to see that Escobar is seeing the ball well and Schafer, for a rookie is really hitting the ball nicely. It was also good to see that Infante can come in and hit the ball. And McCann is getting 1,2 or maybe 3 hits a game so if he can continue that he will have a solid season. It was also good to see Francoeur adjust his stance and see the pitcher better and see the ball better and hit the first pitch he saw of the 09 season out of the park... As for the bullpen....lets just hope they got excited for their first appearence of the year or a possible playoff run will be down the drain.Comment

Re: 2009 Atlanta Braves
What a picture perfect first 24 innings. Things have been tension free other than Gonzo pitching into trouble in game 1. Thanks to MLB.tv I missed the bullpen portion of game 2, but was encouraged by the box score. Today literally made me ill
How much did the Cubs pay Ohman? Our bullpen this year is like our rotation last year, too many "If he does this then..." Blaine needs to be sent down. Should've been sent down after opening day LAST year when Zimmerman ripped our hearts out in extra innings. What's our 'pen? Soriano (Will probably get hurt and that one year was a fluke), Gonzo (Coming off surgery), Moylan (Coming off surgery), Blaine (Minor league material), O'Flagherty (Who?), Campillo (People have figured him out), Bennett (Looked good today actually). Trade Blanco or Prado for some help if things continue in this direction.
How rough was Shafer's day in the field? Dude plays DEEP, which is what allowed that blooper of Utley's to fall in the 7th. Jordan's fast, faster than Andruw was I think, but Andruw could play that deep because of the jumps he got off the bat. It also doesn't help when you play deep and STILL miss two balls hit deep.
Frenchy's bases loaded knock was nice to see. Hope today doesn't make everyone press.Comment

Re: 2009 Atlanta Braves
Typical Philly baseball score 1 run over two games, and then get 12?!?!?!?!?
I love not having a crappy BP anymore. Lidge got his 52nd consecutive SV in a row.

Re: 2009 Atlanta Braves
We really need to make a deal that sends a minor leaguer like Cody Johnson to somewhere for some bullpen help.
Either do the above, or trade Jo-Jo Reyes and Blaine Boyer for a quality veteran reliever. Arthur Rhodes maybe?Comment

So have we changed our uniform combo this year where we are going to wear the solid blue hat and helmet with our traditional gray "road" jerseys instead of the blue hat with red bill?"The best thing about being a football player at Alabama...winning...winning." -Mark Barron

Re: 2009 Atlanta Braves
Idk about Rhodes but the bullpen is terrible. The SPs look (so far) like they'll hold their own but this is pitiful. There isn't anybody in the minors ready - don't say Acosta either b/c he's not the answer. Gonzalez is a good pitcher, but just not a closer...In fact, why does ALL Bobby Cox teams have troubles with bullpens and closers? The only time we had both a dominant closer and an excellent bullpen was when Smoltzie was back thereOriginally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment
