Re: 2009 San Francisco Giants
Not to be the pompous *** that I often am, but as fast as it may appeared, his ball went off the bat at 106.9 MPH. The fastest this year is Pujols (who else?) at 119.6 MPH. Between the two there are 812 other home runs with speeds that went off the bat faster than Velez's was hit.
Of course, that's all atmospherics. Since it was right down the line it probably went out empirically faster than others, but velocity-wise it was nothing to write home about.
This isn't to take away from Velez's power; I just wanted to statistically rank his home run to the rest of the season's home runs mostly because I have nothing better to do right now.
Though here's a fun fact: the fastest velocity off the bat for a home run since 2005 was by David Ortiz (in 2005 as well), who hit a 457 foot shot 122.5 MPH off the bat of Scot Shields' fastball at Fenway Park.
Another fun tidbit: here's an AT&T Park home run that left right field's arcade faster than Velez's home run:
You should remember this one
Okay, history lesson over.

Eh, I'll call it 'bat speed' (great derivation of power production nonetheless). When he hits his first opposite field home run we can consider his real source of power, but I really like what I'm seeing as of late.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
