Not to be the pompous *** that I often am, but as fast as it may appeared, his ball went off the bat at 106.9 MPH. The fastest this year is Pujols (who else?) at 119.6 MPH. Between the two there are 812 other home runs with speeds that went off the bat faster than Velez's was hit.

Of course, that's all atmospherics. Since it was right down the line it probably went out empirically faster than others, but velocity-wise it was nothing to write home about.

This isn't to take away from Velez's power; I just wanted to statistically rank his home run to the rest of the season's home runs mostly because I have nothing better to do right now.

Though here's a fun fact: the fastest velocity off the bat for a home run since 2005 was by David Ortiz (in 2005 as well), who hit a 457 foot shot 122.5 MPH off the bat of Scot Shields' fastball at Fenway Park.

Another fun tidbit: here's an AT&T Park home run that left right field's arcade faster than Velez's home run:

                    You should remember this one

                    Okay, history lesson over.

Yep, the funny thing is Zito should be 12 and 6 this year. He has actually been pitching great too. He had some bad games, but for the most part he has been very solid. And I think E.V. has arrived!

I think he is starting to figure it out. I could wrong. But he does have a lot of power believe it or not. So maybe he will be a force too.

Eh, I'll call it 'bat speed' (great derivation of power production nonetheless). When he hits his first opposite field home run we can consider his real source of power, but I really like what I'm seeing as of late.
