I knew Rondon didn't look right. He and Lackey headed to the DL. Rob Zastryzny and Felix Pena being called up.

The whole Tommy LaStella drama situation honestly didn't bother me one bit.

I think it speaks to how special a group this Cubs team is. If a player would rather effectively end his professional career than play for any other team, that's how you know this team is special

A little Q&A with your 2016 NL MVP.

MVP candidate Kris Bryant opens up on how the Cubs celebrate wins, his current TV viewing plans and which Chicago pitchers would get him out.

Arrieta has struggled this season mainly with walks but good FG article on him still being an ace without his wipeout pitch of last year: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/one-o...es-is-missing/

Would the lady who left her nine kids at Wrigley Field please pick them up immediately? They are beating the Cubs 4-0 in the 7th inning!

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread

Looking at the NL playoff races, I hope it breaks down like this for us...

We go in as the #1 NL seed. It's still a tragedy that the All-Star game screws the actual best team out of HFA in the World Series. Imagine the Cubs and a historic clinching on the road due to this stupid rule.

The Mets and Giants make it as wild cards much to St. Louis' chagrin.

Then the Mets take out San Fran in the 1-game playoff, but use up their ace (Syndergaard?) in the process.

We then get revenge on the Mets in a short series with our pitching staff set up and home field advantage (and no Daniel 'The Bambino' Murphy to worry about).

                Not sure about after that.

The Nats can be scary with Cub-Killer and MVP candidate Daniel Murphy. And Scherzer. The Dodgers have been playing good ball and Kershaw will probably be back. I'm not looking forward to facing either team, but I think we would beat either (plus the Dusty Baker factor is in our favor against the Nats).

They have to enjoy the moment and keep playing loose and clean baseball. Go into the playoffs with health, a stacked deck of pitchers (Lester should be NLDS Game 1 SP...could get to 20 wins and is a strong Cy Young contender), and try like hell to not build up expectations to the point where we're our own worst enemies.

On talent alone, this Cubs team is undoubtedly the best and most complete team in the sport. Finally they get the chance to prove what's been said since way back in the offseason.

Highest Whip among the team's starters.... 1.18

All in the top 24 in the league.

Arrietta is almost an afterthought in the rotation, despite having 17 wins and a sub .200 BAA.

This season should go down in the books regardless of outcome. If this were the Yanks or Sox or Dodgers with this kind of pitching, ESPN would be all over them.

Are you serious with the last comment? The Cubs are in that group of media darlings with the Yanks/Sox/Dodgers...the media has been talking about this team since the first week of the season. Heck, I've seen media asking if anyone can stop the Cubs, period. They've received plenty of props from the media!

Perhaps...I certainly don't watch them as much as I used to.

I agree, they have been talked up since preseason.

I was referring there specifically to the pitching staff. Maybe they've been raved on more than I've noticed.

A staff with a rotation with these kinds of numbers, plus Strop/Rondon/Chapman in the pen should be talked about in the potential "GOAT" conversation.

                                And so it begins...

I'm cautiously optimistic about our chances in the postseason. It's nice to know that we were able to knock out a perennial playoff team like STL after going down 0-1 last year. I think the team will be pretty resilient, even in the face of the certain Giants voodoo magic to come.
