I'm very interested to see how they play being the hunted. Last year, they literally had NOTHING to lose. The season went above and beyond expectations, so each playoff win was gravy. This year, anything short of a World Series title and people will consider it a disappointment.

The Giants are a tough matchup for them because the Giants have October experience, the best manager in the game (IMO), and really the Giants have nothing to lose. We'll see if Maddon can work his "chill, relax, and enjoy the moment" thing to keep them loose.

      Aftermath of NLDS.

Never have I seen a team look so dead and so defeated, then turn around and pour it on in crunch time. Dumbfounded.

Still puzzled by Bochy's decision to take out Moore after the 8th. The Cubs looked lost at the plate most of the night.

That said, if we really want to accomplish the goal, the bats HAVE to wake up. The defense is the only thing that has showed up so far.

So if the Cubs win tonight or tomorrow, Schwarber could be activated for the WS and DH.

Can't wait to see Schwarber slug a walk off homer in Game 3 and Kirk Gibson his way around the bases.

And then 30 years later take over as manager of the D'Backs and ultimately get fired.

It's not a guarantee. He's getting some ABs in Mesa today and tomorrow and see how his knee feels and get some timing.

Last year kinda made me exhaust all of my emotions...

but I still have to stop myself when I think about how much I've followed this team, and how much I've enjoyed doing so since before I was in Little League...even without the winning.

Harry Caray, Don Zimmer, Andre Dawson, Ryne Sandberg, Shawon Dunston...I'll stop, because I think I could name a hundred players easily, many of whom I can still remember specific things about...

Like when Luis Salazar hit a forehead high pitch into the LF bleachers...or Rick Wilkins' monster hitting season...or Jim Bullinger looking like a legit prospect for a few weeks...or Randy Myers just slamming the door shut like it was nothing for a couple of years.

I knew the double play was coming Saturday night. I knew Puig would be aggressive, but that he wouldn't square up.

This is going to be the longest 5-10 days of my life.

So, uh......Steve Goodman's song doesn't fit the World Series so well. Wonder if the crowd will shout "Major Leagues" over the "National League" lyric if the opportunity comes to celebrate a home win.

I had always wondered how they were going to handle this, but the WS just always felt like nothing than a dream before. Granted, the song's been outdated for some time since WGN isn't as associated with the Cubs anymore, but most people outside of Cub fans probably don't know/care about that.

to be honest, I can't stand that song. I don't mind that they have it...but...meh whatever.

I think I might have a slight misconception of how playoff roster eligibility works....Don't you have to be on the active roster as of September 1 to be eligible to participate in the postseason? So wouldn't Schwarber not be eligible....or is he eligible because he was on the active roster prior to Sept 1, and because he was on the 15-day DL he was still technically on the 40-man roster?

Not on the date, just anytime in the season before that date. Almora wasn't on the roster on 9/1 either, but he was before then.

I could probably go on for days naming former Cubs players over the last 30-40 years and beyond. Some good names on your list, but ultimately incomplete without Hector Villanueva.
