Re: Super Mega Baseball 3 Impressions Thread (All Platforms)
Been all over the place in Pennant Race. I finished this last week at 12-14. I was at 12-11 and third place guy was just 3 over .500, so I thought I could make a run. Finished ninth.
Worse, I just tanked my rating. I had gotten it up to over 1800, but it began to slide. Those three losses dropped me to 1633 and back down to the Junior League from Senior League last week. The wrong direction.
Regardless, this game is so good online. So many great games. The one issue with sports games that get online so well is that offline gameplay begins to feel shallow and isolated in comparison. I do really like the Franchise stuff, and I have one started. But getting a human to ground into a double play, or striking him out after going 3-0 is just too big of a rush.
And they could not use Ego better for online matchmaking. Rarely do you get mismatches. But you still get a rush when rated in the 1700s when facing a 2000+ player. It’s a chance to move up.
I’ve been watching some Pennant Race on Twitch, and it just makes me want to grind to a 4000 rating. I’m playing at 39-42 Ego right now. The 4000 guys are playing at 85. That’s a goal.
The best part, watching them, is that their matchmaking is just as good. The games play out the same, but at warped speed. Because of matchmaking, they still have competitive game after competitive game.
Current Division Requirements
Junior - 0000
Senior - 1648
Semi-Pro - 2590
Pro - 3246
All-Star - 3868
Legendary - 4275
I have a lot of work to do. Really can’t wait for Custom Pennant Races to drop.Last edited by JayhawkerStL; 06-07-2020, 10:47 AM.Comment

I am 9-3 with my custom Dunder Mifflin team. I just won a crazy 20 inning game with a 2-run walk-off home run. Game was 1-1 for so damn long until that shot.

Re: Super Mega Baseball 3 Impressions Thread (All Platforms)
Spotted this on Reddit:
Changes that are coming for Update 3, in case you missed it
Here are some of the changes coming in Update 3:
* Passed ball and wild pitch frequency will be revamped. Catchers will be much less likely to drop pitches in the strike zone, and more likely to drop pitches in the dirt or well out of the strike zone.
* AI pick-off and pitchout rates will be reduced.
* AI baserunners will be more susceptible to being picked off.
* Stealing 3B will be harder.
* Pitchers will drop more comebackers hit at them.
* AI bullpen management has been improved to help prevent leaving in a tired or ineffective pitcher for too long.
* AI batters will see more variation in their swing rates from at-bat to at-bat, and from game to game.
Other notes:
* Update 2 significantly reduced the drop rate on clean throws. I play my own Custom Franchise fairly frequently too and have not experienced this, so I am surprised to hear that this is still an issue. With that said, there are two types of throws that will be dropped at a higher rate: throws that bounce, and throws received while running to tend a base (which can include pitchers covering 1B). Nonetheless, players with high Fielding skill should still be able to catch both of these types of throws a high majority of the time. We'll continue to monitor feedback in this area.
* The suggested lineup put forth by the AI was iterated on for SMB3. I would love to see examples of suggested lineups that feel off, for Standard or Custom teams. While we are fairly happy with the improvements made here since SMB2, we may consider further tweaks to the algorithm.
* Regarding PDOs in Franchise mode, we are continuing to gather feedback for future updates, with particular consideration for Franchise-related requests.
* Finally, with base stealing, it does take practice. I have personally found the most success when doing a straight steal with less than two strikes and taking the pitch all the way. Also, when putting on a hit and run, I recommend relying more on the Contact swing than the Power swing. The Contact swing is easier to time without having to worry about the power load, and provides a larger reticle to make contact with. I sometimes try to use the Contact swing to fight off fastballs when I'm not confident in my straight steal attempt, but I'll admit that I'm pretty rubbish at that tactic.

Re: Super Mega Baseball 3 Impressions Thread (All Platforms)
So, still no word on career stats in franchise, automatic stealing with forced runners on full count/two outs, and runners taking off automatically on first and/or second base on line drives with less than two outs.
Stealing has really bugged me so far. I'm not saying "Herp derp I should be successful all the time," but rather it seems every time I attempt to steal is when the pick-off or pitchout happens. I once began taking off in a situation that never would have called for it (runner with 8 speed, 2-0 count, 0 out, down by 5), and they just decided to pitch out anyway. I almost feel like the game adjusted on the fly and said: "Yeah, we know you pressed L1, so we're going to counter that."
The fact that you pretty much cannot steal successfully unless you're timing pressing L1 exactly when the pitcher starts their kick makes this really, really hard against lefties, plus when on second base. Their kick animation needs to be more obvious that they're leaning or doing the spaghetti move. They also have to attack lowering the opposing team's mojo more quickly or get more overthrows, because it's way abusive.
I've never once been able to pick off the CPU, and I feel like the game knows when I'm pitching out and throwing an off-speed pitch as well to decide "Yeah, I'm going to steal / No, I'm not going to steal." Just a frustrating venture overall because the baserunning on both sides tends to be my difference between wins and losses.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Want to see the fun of playing an all-99 Ego game?

I'm telling you, with better check-swinging mechanics and a proper batter cam where I can track to the strike zone properly, this would be a lot more of a "no problem" thing.Last edited by Blzer; 06-20-2020, 01:53 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

I'm also hoping they work on "runner on second base" stuff, specifically regarding how runners are held and having more than just the really tricky spaghetti move that the game has.
I am guessing this will not change, but that has been a bit of an issue for me as well.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

The career stats thing is huge for me. I love when a franchise becomes this whole universe you can immerse yourself in, and career stats are a must to really have that.Comment

I hope somebody down the line makes a hockey game just like this though. I love fictional names and the ability to edit everything. They need this in a brand new hockey game.Comment

I'm with you, Sky. Commentary wouldn't do anything for me and I'm at the point where I turn it off in every other sports game I play because it's so repetitive.Currently Playing:

Re: Super Mega Baseball 3 Impressions Thread (All Platforms)
But I don’t commentators, especially if it leads to year after year of people critiquing it. Keep it simple.
Honestly, it’s why I hope they not get an MLB license. It’s not a sim. It plays realistic, but the moment the sim guys get it, they start pointing out flaws and problems.
It’s not a sim. The gameplay is balanced so well, and without the need to make X player play at exactly X level, you enjoy the characters and their career arc without any stats looking off. They aren’t off. Those are the stats based on this universe.
That has made online play better. It is so much easier to balance a game without real players.Comment

Commentary here would feel out of place. I’d rather have the emcee type of announcer trying to pump up the crowd and making wisecracks. That would fit the presentation.Comment
