    Re: The Atlantic 10 Thread

the league turned into a worst-case scenario. Two clearly elite teams, one has a huge injury and couldn't recover. 3 teams slightly below them(URI, UMass, SJU), but all took some bad conference losses. And then pretty much the rest of the league which has been good enough to beat each other, and the teams above them(excluding X, of course) on a regular basis. Take away X and St. Bonnie and you've got one giant mass where the entire league is playing at the same level, Richmond and La Salle are looking good to get first round byes in the A10 tournament, unbelievable.

Could have been a 5-bid league, but right now it'll be lucky to get 2 at-large in. But at least teams proved themselves OOC, it shows that the A10 is strong, it has just been unforunate that nobody(outside of X, that is annoying to keep repeating that ) has been able to separate themselves.

The same Saint Louis team that went to Philly and beat St. Joe's on their home floor the other night lost to St. Bonaventure this afternoon, in St. Louis, by a score of 70-50. Makes absolute perfect sense...

Temple now has the second best conference record, meanwhile St. Joseph's is on a very bad decline. Whatever the reason, I have no clue.

UMass is looking pretty good lately, 4 wins in a row I think, if they get their next two and win one or two in the conference tourny I think they'll be the 2nd team in.

St. Joe's isn't quite dead yet, but need to pull off wins over Xavier and Dayton along with a couple in the conference tournament to get themselves back in the picture.

Dayton's still alive, they pretty much can't lose until the A10 finals, if they do that they will have 22 or 23 wins, and should have Wright back by then(when's he scheduled to return???) and may look like a different team.

                UMass-100, La Salle-63

UMass destroyed La Salle in every category. Probably the best all-around conference game they've played this season.

Unless there's some weird tiebreakers I haven't taken into affect, it looks like right now Dayton and Rhode Island would be the 8/9 facing each other in the first round, winner playing Xavier.

That would be rough for either of them, but if they were to win two straight, that would certainly look good.

That's going to be tough for the Flyers. I read somewhere that Wright might not be back at all this season.

Part of me says to just keep him out if I'm Brian Gregory. Let him be 100% for 2008-09. They have some new kids coming in to plug some holes. Little, Sandoval, and Johnson will all be back. Chris Wright is going to be a force in the league for several years. Don't bring him back before he's healed up.

I'd hate that. Keep in mind too, Xavier keeps winning BUT they are not clicking on all cylinders. Drew Lavender is playing on a bad ankle and has been since the Charlotte game when he injured it. He is what makes this team go. Their offense isn't quite the same without him in at 100%. I'm a little worried about it all. Miller has a dilemma...1) Have him keep playing at less than 100% or 2) take time to let him heal up so he's closer to 100% for the Big Dance and possibly lose two more times (St. Joe's and A-10 tournament)? This could be Xavier's best season ever if things play out right. Tough call for coach.

The Joe up 33-26 at half over XU. Hawks are making everything and playing very hard on defense. Not looking good for X.

                              71-66 St. Joe's. Blah!!!

Hawks shot better and played better defense all game. I'm fine with this loss. Rather they got it out of the way now than in the Field of 64.

That win last night should have sealed St. Joe's dance ticket, but coming off of two straight losses, all it does is give them a little hope. If they beat Dayton over the weekend and get to the A10 finals they will be right back on the bubble.

UMass is gelling at the right time, I haven't verified this, but I'm guessing they are the only team in the conference to win 5 straight conferences games this year outside of Xavier. A win Saturday gets them to 10 conference wins with an RPI in the 30s, as long as they don't get ousted in the first round of the A10, I think they'll be feeling pretty good on selection Sunday.
