Well I can truly say that I believe Marquette is for real but they aren't as good as Louisville, Connecticut, and maybe even Pitt in my opinion, despite their current conference record. I doubted them a few weeks ago but I think they are a legit 3rd or 4th place team in the conference and you aren't going to find 3 better guards on any team in the country.

I haven't seen them play many games this year but the ones that I did see weren't impressive as far guards go. Walker & Austrie seem sporadic and Dyson and Price don't appear to be consistent with their outside shooting. I didn't say they were horrible. I just said that guard play didn't appear to be their strength.Comment

Re: 2008/2009 Big East Thread
louisville getting away with a lot of what look to be hacks so far (a lot of nice, clean steals, too)... and how about where sosa basically pushed dyson down and there was no call?Comment

Re: 2008/2009 Big East Thread
Plus you can't expect to go to the line if you're not attacking the basket. Most of Louisville's shots have been outside jumpers. They seem to be deathly afraid of taking it inside.
Dyson's the one that's been getting the bad luck so far with the calls. That previously mentioned sosa bump that knocked him down, getting body bumped out of bounds towards the end of the half and the foul call on basically what louisville has been doing all game. But I'll accept it due to home court, haha.
But, I'm happy with the way the game's turned out so far, and i hope it stays this way. UConn's doing a good job of beating the press, despite not taking the greatest care of the ball. AJ's having a not so great game so far, and I think we'll need him to step it up in the 2nd half if they want to stay on top.
Also, Williams is a beast for you guys...Comment

Re: 2008/2009 Big East Thread
Two words why this game was the way it was...
Hasheem Thabeet
UofL had no inside presence. This is where Samardo, TJ, and Goode being freshman hurt us. They just aren't capable of playing against someone like Thabeet. Couple that with the fact that Thabeet made guys think twice about going into the lane.
UofL has to work inside out, but couldn't do so tonight. And then as typical they were frustrated, broke down on defense and that was about the extent of it.
Fans at the game were frustrated with the officiating and I had people next to and near me screaming at the officials to let us shoot free throws or whatnot, but thats what happens when you shoot jumpshot after jumpshot. The only foul that I took issue with was the last foul called on Sosa. I don't think he touched Price, but thats neither here nor there as the game was already decided. The refs didn't decide the outcome of this game.
UConn's 15-2 run to close the 1st half closed the door on UofL. We are certainly capable of overcoming that type of deficit, but not against a team that prohibits us from doing anything in the paint.
The point of this story is that UConn gave us a good ol fashioned butt whoopin on our own back porch. Congrats to UConn and their fans.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Well we are ahead of both those teams in the standings right now, so talk all you want. Until these teams play I dont see how you can say one is better than the other. I think we will probably lose to UConn(who the **** is gonna match up with Thabeat), but I think the game between the Ville and MU will be a close one(as is the case 90 percent of the time)...Rather be dead than RED!

LMAO @ Pitino trying to press this UConn team. Really, Rick?
I was extremely confident that we'd win this game but I didn't think it'd be by this much. Since the preseason I've said L'Villle was gonna struggle due to their lack of a point guard and granted there were much bigger issues than that tonight when the going got tough it was a lot of one pass and a jumper for the Cards on offense. Not much leadership, no sign of making UConn work on D, etc.

And I say what I do by watching the teams play and who everyone has beaten and played thus far.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: 2008/2009 Big East Thread
It makes no sense how my Hoyas handled that UCONN team on their own gym. UCONN is on a different level right now.
Last night you could really see the difference between the 2 teams. I said it a while back but Louisville's guards aren't very good. Granted, UCONN's guards will make a lot of teams look bad but Sosa, Smith, Knowles leave a lot to be desired.
He might not be their best player but Adrien is by far the heart and soul of the team. He absolutely killed that 2-3 zone by going high post. Every night that kid plays hard. If you could put his will into Thabeet's body you'd have the #1 draft pick there. As for Thabeet, I don't see success for him in the NBA at all. Defensively he will block shots but guys in the league will just back him down and he will get into foul trouble. Offensively he still goes up very akwardly. There were many times where he had Jennings pinned and instead of going up with the left, he would shoot with the right and get blocked.
Despite all that I just don't see anyone beating UCONN this year period. They have the guards to match up with Wake, are deeper than Duke and are more physical downlow than UNC. If Calhoun keeps them focused I think they cut the nets down in March.
How do you think you guys matchup with the rest of the country's elite ehh?Last edited by KG; 02-03-2009, 08:39 AM.Comment
