Re: 2008/2009 Big East Thread
Syracuse is going to get the victory over West Virginia. WVU tried to make a run late, but they couldn't sustain it.
'Nova dominating Providence at the Dunkin Donuts Center. I'm actually surprised by this. Not that 'Nova is winning, but how they have completely dominated the first 20 minutes.
Cincy and ND in a good oneI can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: 2008/2009 Big East Thread
Well, Cincinnati has went on to put a beating on Notre Dame late and looks primed to win it with only two minutes left.
The Bearcats definitely look like they could go dancing this March if they keep on playing well. Meanwhile, Notre Dame falls to 12-9 (3-7). Ouch.
West Virginia was horrible looking on offense tonight. Syracuse played really good defense and WVU just has a ton of trouble rebounding against big teams like Syracuse. I can't wait to get that guy from Turkey next year (His name slips my mind) so he can help rebounding...
EDIT: Also, I should not, WVU's starting point guard, Joe Mazzula, underwent surgery today, so he'll definitely be redshirted. I hate having only one true point guard on the roster and that PG being a true freshman. I think we saw the result today as the offense just looked very sloppy and disorganized. And that's how it's looked all year long.Last edited by superjames1992; 02-04-2009, 09:40 PM.Comment

Re: 2008/2009 Big East Thread
Bearcats do have a shot. Coming in, rpi was 59th. so that's very much on the bubble. They have S.FL, Hall & StJ's, so they should get 8 BE wins. The other 5 will be tough. @ G'twn, Pitt & Cuse. Host L'ville & WVa. If they win the ones they are supposed to & squeeze in one they shouldn't, 19-12 (9-7) should be good enough to make them the 8-9th BE team in. Especially if the one extra gets them a sweep of G'twn or a win over the Cards or Pitt. Getting swept by the Friars hurts them in that "tiebreaker". 18-13 (8-8) may mean needing 2 wins in the BE tourney.

Man, Notre Dame is gonna be in the friggen CBI by the time this season is over.

Nova holds on to beat Providence 94-91. I was at the gym and the entire gym pretty much stopped lifting and watched the last minute of game. It was ridiculous how many threes Providence was making in the second half... especially in the last minute. Whatever... a win is a win. Thats 4 in a row in the tough Big East... I'll definitely take it any day.Villanova Class of 2012

Actually, there's a pretty good chance they'll be 13-0 in BE play before playing @ Georgetown, although they have yet to play Louisville, UConn, Pittsburgh, and Syracuse...Last edited by Chip Douglass; 02-05-2009, 12:58 AM.I write things on the Internet.

Re: 2008/2009 Big East Thread
I don't want to burst your bubble superjames, but I've seen the kid from Turkey play 5 or 6 times this season against decent talent and there's no way he's going to be anywhere near ready for Big East play next season, or maybe even the season after that. He's a project and needs a ton of work. He is way too soft. He is not aggressive at all and gets pushed around by guys much smaller than he is. It's going to take a while for him to adjust to the American game. I've seen him play 2 of those games I mentioned against WV AAA schools and kids that probably aren't even going to play lower level college ball are having their way with him in the post and dominating him on the glass. I think the last game I watched him play he only had 1 rebound and played almost the entire game and the opposing team's tallest player was 6'6".Comment

Re: 2008/2009 Big East Thread
Someone besides Butler is going to have to score. Ruoff is missing way too many open looks and Truck has progressively gotten worse, instead of better over the last 2 weeks. His decision making has been terrible as of late and he's not getting his teammates involved in the offense. The defense has been awful the last 2 games and at times have looked like they're not even putting forth effort out there. If this trend continues, WVU could be looking at an NIT bid.Comment

man I wish we played Cincy at home. They are a good team that is one recruiting class and healthy Cashmere Wright away from being contenders.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

WVU is fading fast. Now at 15-7, and 4-5 in the Big East, they have some work to do. Even though they're RPI is still in the Top 20, they are going to need at least 4 or 5 more wins in my opinion. I just can't get over how brutal this conference is night in and night out. There are no breaks.

Honestly, I wouldn't be too disappointed with an NIT bid. I'd rather go into the NIT and make a run or win it than get bounced out of the first round in the NCAA Tournament.
This team is just too young and too small to compete. We get that Turkish fellow next year. Maybe he can provide some needed size next year. Plus, another year of experience would do well for this team.
Ebanks has been really disappointing this year. He was a top 10 recruit, but he's just not been that good. He shows a lot of potential IMO, but his game is very unpolished. He has a lot of athletic ability, but he's not a very good shooter. He is a good rebounder, though.Comment

Yeah, that Syracuse game was very painful to watch. The offense was stagnant and just horribly ugly to watch and it looked liked WVU gave up on the defensive end as the game progressed.
