I would say its a 3 way race between McNeal, Thabeet, and Blair. Blair's performance against Uconn got him a lot of hype. If Pitt sweeps Marquette and UConn this week with Blair having two good games, I think it will go to him.

Re: 2008/2009 Big East Thread
What are you guys thinking for conference POY? I'd say it's a three horse race between McNeal, Thabeet and Sam Young.
Louisville is too balanced to give the award to anyone, even if they win the regular season (which is probably gonna happen). Gody's numbers are great but ND is horrible.
No, he doesn't score many points(12.5 ppg) but he is in the top 10 in 3 other categories:
4th in steals (2.1 spg)
8th in rebs (8.5 rpg)
5th in asst (4.9 apg)
I'm not sure that any of the other guys on the list (McNeal, Blair, Young, Thabeet, Gody) are asked to do the all around thing that T-Will is asked to do.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I don't see how Blair couldn't get it (Big East POY), unless he absolutely disappears these last few games and Pitt loses, which I don't see happening. He really looked dominant in the head-to-head matchup with Thabeet and his numbers have been solid all season.Last edited by crques; 03-03-2009, 02:35 PM.Comment

Re: 2008/2009 Big East Thread
Tie-breaker for what? If Uconn wins their last game and Louisville wins their last 2 games. they will be co-championsComment

Objectively the last 2 nights proves Providence is the safest BE bubble team.
ND lost to a quality opponent, but it was a home loss.
GU's and Cincy's losses tonight are damaging to at large because of who they lost to but they were road losses
Providence is the safest of the BE bubble teams
These 3 their best option's to get to Saturday night
ND
Cincy

There goes any slim chance we had.
Thanks JT3. All year you look like a deer in headlights when the other team goes zone. Your garbage Princeton offense was a nice gimmick but real teams will sit back in zone and watch your team pass the ball around the perimeter until there is 7 seconds left at which someone will jack up a 3.
UGH, I'm so heated right now. Words cannot describe the tank job that JT3 and this Hoyas team did this year.Comment

Re: 2008/2009 Big East Thread
Well, you can't say you didn't see it coming, lol.
About three months ago......
Gonna be a long year for my Hoyas.
1. We still can't break a press. We have the worst press break play of all time. Despite starting 3 guards everyone looks around at each other waiting for the other guards to do something.
2. We're worse on the boards than last year. We got killed on the glass last year by any team that had a solid big man. This year we're much smaller and don't have any muscle at all.
3. No depth at all. 8 deep with 2 freshman coming off the bench = trouble in the Big East. If and when Monroe gets in foul trouble we're gonna be relying on a true frosh and a transfer from FSU.
4. Without Hibbert you would think that the Hoyas would play a little bit more uptempo, wrong. Halfcourt, slowdown, run the sets is the only way JT3 knows how to play. When the shot clock runs low this offense is unbearable to watch. Nothing worst than seeing your big men 22 feet away from the basket with 5 secs on the clock.
The only positive is that we are extremely young. Only 1 SR & 1 JR worth a damn. The rest all sophmores & freshman. Monroe is a stud though. He is really skilled and has a nice feel for the game. It's a shame that he will have to play major minutes at the center and get beat up all year. With another quality big allowing him to play the 4 he would be a lot better."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

I was 4-4 on my projections. On a side note, Burrell's dunk in OT was straight nasty. Threw Sapp down (should have been a foul on Sapp) and then just ripped it.Comment

Re: 2008/2009 Big East Thread
Barring a nice, long run in the Big East Tournament, I think it's safe to say that Notre Dame, Georgetown, and Cincinnati are all going to be NIT teams this season. I'm still on the fence with Providence though. A win over Villanova tomorrow night and I think they're in for sure.Last edited by crques; 03-04-2009, 02:48 PM.Comment
