After tonight's game, the best thing that could happen to Pitt is to get a 2 seed on Sunday. There is something about this Pitt team, in that we just do not show up at crucial times when we have a lofty position (#1 ranking, double bye in the BE tournament). I swear that I will be happy if we get a 2 seed on Sunday, and, I am going to feel uneasy if we back our way into a 1 seed.
Pitt is a LOCK for a 1 seed (to say that they will "back in" is crazy). Especially after Oklahoma just lost. I agree Pitt plays better when they have a chip on their shoulder, but if you really think that a 2 seed is better because Pitt will have a better mentality, then Pitt doesn't have a chance to go to the Final Four. If you can't show up because you are a 1 seed (which is what I think you are saying) then you need to get some mental toughness, otherwise you never had a chance.

      What? They're still a LOCK for a #1 seed.

The only question for Pittsburgh was whether or not they would be the #1 overall.

Yeah the Big East is shaping up pretty nicely to get three #1 seeds. No way one is coming from the SEC, Big 12, Pac-10 or Big Ten. If UConn beats Cuse tonight then I think we'll see UConn, Pitt and UL with #1 seeds. I think the only way we don't see it is if UConn wins the BET and for some reason the selection committee gives Memphis a #1 and Pitt will be a #2.

We can't complain that we are wore out because of the BE tourney.
The officiating was bad on both sides for sure. For some reason the officials decided that Blair wasn't allowed to be called for a foul the first 8 minutes of the 2nd half, especially when he ran over Thoroughman. WVU's defense won the game. Pitt was frustrated and confused the whole 2nd half and the 1-3-1 gave them fits. Give WVU credit. I'm sure that Pitt cared to be there and wanted to head into the Tournament next week with some momentum. It's just hard to beat a team 3 times and Pitt might have understimated WVU a little. The win tonight might just move WVU into a #5 seed. Who knows what's going to happen tomorrow, whether it be Syracuse or UConn. WVU is playing well in NY and Ebanks is a beast.

Ya - maybe I am just grasping for meaning/explanation here. But - I just didn't like our defense tonight. They spread the floor and got a ton of backdoor layups. Then - they were getting putbacks on missed shots. This wasn't the team I just watched play with intensity all game vs. UConn.

WVU definitely has chance to win the whole thing. It's not likely, of course, but West Virginia has played Louisville twice and each game was close and very winnable and played UConn once, which was also a winnable game lost in the final minutes. I'm not expecting it, but wouldn't be totally shocked, either, if West Virginia dialed up some magic and won the Big East Tournament.

WVU's offense was executed to perfection tonight, they kept Blair (and everyone else) constantly moving before getting a good shot mostly late in the :35 clock.

Agreed. Huggins coached masterfully tonight and WV definitely had a great game plan. Pitt looked totally lost when playing against the 1-3-1 and they just didn't display the intensity I am used to watching, especially on defense and on the boards.

Good win for WV...too bad, I was sort of enjoying the dominance we were showing against WV as of late (both bb and fb)

I hated on Stanley Robinson all year but damn that kid is athletic. It was a great setup by Price but Stanley called for that as soon as he cut to the hoop. He would have had another a few plays later if it wasnt for a fount

I'm a WV fan but objectively speaking those refs were horrible on both sides. Too many ticky tack fouls were called. Please keep those refs away from the rest of the tournment.

It would be more accurate to say that Pitt only looses when Blair gets in foul trouble. He has been in foul trouble and they have won (I believe they are 3-4 when he gets 4 fouls with a win over WV earlier this year). But your point is well taken, get Blair in foul trouble and Pitt you stand a much better chance of beating Pitt.
