I quoted your post because your last post was directed at me and said that I was making excuses when I had said from the beginning that our team was flat out outplayed that night. The onlly excuse I made was directed at the officiating, which for anyone who saw that game (and I'm guessing you didn't, since you are in Indiana...) knew what I was talking about. It was Kings/Lakers WCF bad. VMI shuffling their feet all over the place before making a move, over-the-back foul calls when the rebounder was jumping backwards and away from the person boxing out. It was just ridiculous. Regardless, UK should not ever be in a position to have the officiating be the deciding factor of the game against VMI.

Trolls was used because as soon as people see any thread made about Kentucky, whether it be OS, ESPN, CBSsportsline, or anything, they feel the need to come in and try to make it a bigger deal than it really is. It happens with all the big teams in every sports association. Lakers/Kobe, Boston Celtics/Red Sox/Patriots, etc, etc. I guess all the fans who are in those threads defending against the haters are making excuses too? That's not making excuses, that's defending our team. So we lost to Gardner Webb, Houston, and UAB last year? We still did fine and made it to the NCAA tournament without who was, in my opinion, the best player on the team in Patterson, and who is going to be co-star player this year in Meeks, and beat a #3 Tennessee team along the way.

But thats the thing, I didn't come in here trolling the boards. I made a comment about my local area, and then started discussing the game and state of Kentucky with you, thats it. You made me out as being a troll and attacking you, when I was doing nothing more than discussing our differences of opinion. And I did see the game.

We will do fine, we may lose 10-12 games this year, but we will be fine. We should make the NCAA tournament with a strong performance in the SEC with no clear favorites to win the tournament besides Tennessee and Florida.

I think you guys will make the NCAA tournament. How many losses you'll have depends on how strong the SEC is this year and outside of Florida and Tennessee, I don't see any other dominant teams that UK shouldn't be able to beat.

I just have to comment on this because of the ridiculousness of it. It really is hilarious. You act like missing star players has absolutely no effect on outcomes of games. I guess the year that David Robinson was injured and the Spurs had the 3rd worst record in the NBA had nothing to do with Robinson being out?

How many games did Patterson miss last year? And I never said that injuries to big time players don't affect a team. Like I said, we went through that with Padgett and Palacios last year. But even with the injuries, UK's team was too talented during the season to lose to the likes of Georgia, UAB, San Diego, and Gardner Webb. I'll admit that not having Patterson in the NCAA game vs Marquette hurt, but you guys should've, in my opinion, been better than 18-13 last year.

Just to chime in...I feel pretty much the same way that Wildcatchild and Dakkon feel. But the sky is not falling and UK is NOT through as a major basketball school. In fact I still think that we will be a different and MUCH improved team by the time SEC play starts. We absolutely should not ever lose a game to the GW's and the VMI's, but it happened and we have to move on.

Countryboy, I think you just happened to read what Dakkon said wrongly. I can definitely see how you took it, but when I first read it I did not think he was talking directly at you. Anyway I think he just worded it in a way that seemed that way but didn't mean to.

UK and UL will always be heated in their rivalry. This is to be expected. And I also expect, because of the rivalry, for us (UK and UL fans) to give the opposing team as hard as a time as they can when one loses to someone they shouldn't. But it would be cool if at least at OS, we keep it in jest and for fun and not take it personally or attack people because we are frustrated. OS is not like most places, in fact we are all here because of our passion for sports video games and these other forums are just an extention of that. So let's all remember to be kind, while of course ribbing our rivals as much as possible.

As for UK and where we go from here? We will be fine. We will be better. We will be a Major NC contender again. Not sure when, but it will happen a lot sooner than later. Let's not forget that just 7 years ago (I think) UNC was severly under .500 for a season. UCLA took about a decade off from being relevant. But those programs are back just as UK will be. UK's down years consist of 10-13 losses...not bad.

UK and UNC game tomorrow night, I hope, will be a lot better than the VMI game for us. In fact, I think UK matches up very well with UNC even if Psycho T was playing. With the biggest mismatch being Ty Lawson and our lack of leadership. We very well may get blown out, but I think it will be closer than people think. Don't let the VMI game (or actually, do let it) make you think that is how UK will play every game. Just won't happen.

I'm not sure that it's fair to write Kentucky off completely after a loss to VMI. Sure, VMI isn't exactly on the who's-who of college basketball powerhouses, but they play a style of basketball that, really, no other team in the NCAA plays.

For Virginia to beat VMI, our head coach Dave Leitao had to drastically change our normal rotation; none of our "traditional" big guys (Tunji Soroye, John Bradenberg, Assane Sene) played a single minute. Looking at the box score, I don't get the impression that Gillespie made any similar adjustments (in particular, Patrick Patterson playing 27 minutes jumps out at me, as does starting three forwards against the Keydets' athletic, guard-heavy lineup).

The point is, I doubt that either Virginia or, to get back on topic, Kentucky will face a team with the same chaotic, bombs-away style of basketball that VMI plays for the rest of the season, lest either of them play the Keydets again in some postseason tournament.

Besides, didn't North Carolina lose to Santa Clara to open up their 2004-05 National Championship campaign? Not saying that Kentucky will approach that team's success, but one game does not a season make.

UK lets one nobody team beat us per year, Last year Gardner Webb and this year it is VMI. But we will be all right UNC better watch out.
