Thanks, but I gotta say your boys were the real deal. We had to play our butts off to not let you guys blow the game open. Your coach should be getting a big time pay day from getting that program from death's door to 7 pts away from a Final Four. You have always stuck by your Bears, and even though your boys didn't get all the way home you should be proud as heck. Good luck to your team in the future.

I'd say in the middle/closer to the top if anything. '81-'85, '87, '93, '95, '96, '05, '07, '08, and '09 were worse than this year's team, which puts this one pretty much square in the middle.
If we do win it all I agree it'd be by far the weakest of them all, but a title's a title.
I'd say 1990 was worse than this years Final Four team. 1988 had Billy King locking down on D and Ferry so they weren't much better. If I had to gauge a team that resembles this Duke team would be 1994. That team just played hard and won the Reg Season, and came out and just took apart the South Regional and Purdue to get to the NC game where Scottie Bleepin Thurman won it for the Hogs. I still hate that guy.President of the Devils Den

Re: The Official 2010 "Running Commentary of Every Single Tourney Game" Thread
It's hard to gauge IMO because college basketball is so pathetic this year.
Duke was kinda meh during the regular season. So-so start to their road schedule, got smoked at G'Town. But they did hit their stride and as expected won both ACC titles.
Their first two games in the tourney were against the play-in game winner and a PAC-10 team that would never sniff the at-large field in most seasons.
Purdue was missing their best player and Baylor is a decent squad but nothing special. I'm not belittling their accomplishments this year but just in comparison to what other Duke teams had to face this decade it is a worthy footnote IMO. What would the '06 team do in this field? What would this team do in the '06 field?
There simply are no great teams in the country this year, past Duke teams from this decade easily could have made the FF.
I think the 06 squad and the 02 squad most defiantly could have made it but for different reasons. 02 would have had more talent than anybody, and 06 would have had to have JJ now with a decent driving game with the Magic to go with his ungodly range from 3 at Duke. 03 played D but couldn't shoot if JJ was off, 04 our other FF team would have cut down the nets in a heartbeat. That team played awesome D, but it's a tossup at how great their D was with this team. 05 would have had no shot if we go by them being just drained getting to the Sweet 16. If they weren't drained from a season playing only 6-7 players depending on the month when someone was healthy or hurt. 00 probably would have lost to Baylor yesterday. No size and no depth would have done them in.President of the Devils Den

UConn in '99 may have been easier, didn't play a seed better than 5. UTSA, New Mexico, Iowa and Gonzaga (the start of the Zags making noise in March). 16, 10, 9 and 5 seeds en route to the FF. But of course since they scored the major upset in the title game no one remembers any of the other details - namely that we almost lost to Gonzaga in the Elite 8."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

I think it has to do with most people not all but most looking at NBA potential. For a college basketball team this team is one of our best we have had with the size and shooting plus the suffocating D. I wouldn't even try and say any of our guys are gonna be big time players in the NBA, but as a college team yeah I'd take this team any day of the week.President of the Devils Den

Thank you Wellington Smith for opening your trap. "There was always Kentucky looming," forward Wellington Smith said. "Now that we've played Kentucky, that basically was the national championship game. We have a chance at this. We could win going away."

Yeah, they actually have frontcourt depth this year and they don't over-extend their defense like they did in years past. Having guys with suspect lateral quickness like Sheyer/Paulus picking up their man at half-court was a setup.Comment

Yep he wrote a check that he wants Butler to cover for him in case it bounces. It is funny that role players are always the ones to run their mouth, when in the end they aren't the ones stuck having to back it up.President of the Devils Den

Smith should've just shut his mouth. There's no need to say anything. However, I don't see anything wrong with his comments. Was he not telling the truth?Indianapolis Colts

Not literally, no. But in a way it was. They were in UK's bracket and everyone knew UK was the favorite to win it all after Kansas lost. I don't think it's a big deal. It's not like he guaranteed anything.Indianapolis Colts
