If they stay in that zone they won't. Unlike UK we won't clank 20 straight 3 pointers. They better go man to man and hope we don't get their Iron 6 in foul trouble.

I would go 3-2 agains Duke, Not really familiar with West Va's defense though, wouldn't 3-2 be the way to go to keep Duke's 3 game under control?

Then again Singler and Nolan Smith can exploit that zone with their slashing.

It's like Brian Zoubek and Will Thomas have turned into Dennis Rodman and Dwight Howard on these boards lately.

God forbid anybody outrebounds those guys.

WVU is not a zone team and won't run zone much against Duke. WVU is a man-to-man team; I think Huggins just went with zone against UK because he knew they sucked at shooting the basketball and it worked quite well.

I expect WVU to employ hard-nosed in-your-face man defense like they usually do. Sometimes, Huggins throws the 1-3-1 in towards the end of games, but I've never seen WVU under Huggins run as much zone as they did against Kentucky.

Lance Thomas. My fault. Will Thomas is a guard that transferred from WVU a year ago. Easy mistake

Duke and West Virginia are pretty much equal on the boards. West Virginia was #2 in the country in Off. Rebounding % and Duke was #7.

Zoub has been on a tear since Feb when he lit Maryland up, and the Plumlees eat up a lot of rebounds just as much as Thomas. The Plumlees since really the ACC Tournament have been picking up their production on the offensive end as well. Thomas has mostly been our best low post defender thus why he made All ACC Defensive team. Who said they were the Worm and Superman?

If I were gonna zone that's how I would attack us. Smith might carve them up *he might carve them up in the man to man off the pick and roll*, but Singler's wrist is a minor concern. He hurt it in the 2nd half against Purdue the same one Ish Smith about broke back when we played them in Cameron earlier in the season. He wasn't even close to the same player on Sunday.

And? WVU is the STILL the better rebounding team.

WVU is #6 in the nation in total rebounds

                          #1 in offensive rebounds

                          #44 in defensive rebounds

Duke is #2 in the nation in total rebounds.

                          #4 in offensive rebounds

                          #12 in defensive rebounds

Still wanna claim that? UCONN out rebounded you a team we beat up on the glass. We've been out rebounded 4 times in 38 games. We lost two of those in close games. A December game at Whisky and a late Febuary game at Maryland. Both of those games we lost the board edge by two. FSU one of the tallest teams in america beat us by 10 on the boards and we still beat them down rather easily. All in all we got beat by a total of 20 boards in those four games.

Btw that's including playing Georgia Tech 3 times.

UConn hasn't boxed out an opposing player in about 15 years. So damn frustrating to watch Calhoun's strategy of "Let's recruit a bunch of 6'10+ guys who are so athletic I'll never force them to box out."

                            :

That was far and away the biggest reason Duke won that game at MSG in December, they sent 4 guys to the offensive glass and no one on UConn was putting a body on anyone. It was like culture shock to see UConn outrebounded by Duke. What did y'all shoot Diddy, like 28% from the floor and still won going away.

That is what WVU has to do, they MUST box out. Baylor didn't in their zone, UConn didn't earlier in the year. WVU isn't going to simply out jump Duke for rebounds, they need to body up.

I believe it was 28%. We just played volleyball on the glass and eventually something had to go in. Yeah if WVU wants to beat us they have to box out, and if they crash the boards on the offensive end they better hope they get it or we could be pushing it the other way. We don't push it much, but if we see opportunities for leak outs that's usually when we do.
