Re: 2014 Recruiting Thread
Yup that is the first true miss I would say for Groce (DJ and XRM in 2013 were misses but he got in so late didn't really figure he had a chance).
KBD is a downstate kid and the only top tier level player in state in 2014 Illinois had a shot at and he not only doesn't pick Illinois he goes to a conference rival. Illinois typically cleans up when it comes to getting talent from that area so this is a huge miss.
I think part of this could come down to how Groce extended his offer. KBD came to visit shortly after Groce was hired and being on campus you would figure Groce would extend an offer in person, he decided not to offer then the next day extended an offer to a player at the same position from out of state, about a week later he extened an offer to KBD via phone.Favorite Teams:
NCAA- University of Illinois Fighting Illini
NFL- Cleveland Browns
MLB- St. Louis Cardinals
NBA- Boston Celtics
NHL- Chicago Blackhawks

Re: 2014 Recruiting Thread
Yeah, great pick up for UK. I am super excited about Towns. Kid is a 7 footer that can handle well for his size, is uber smart and can shoot lights out. Dirk said had he gone to college it would have been UK. Maybe we will be getting Dirk 2.0? Not sure if that is a good comparison since I don't watch the NBA but they are both 7 footers that can shoot the 3!#WeAreUKComment

Believe it or not, getting Towns was not a done deal from that and Cal had a major uphill battle. There are always things going on behind the scenes that most people don't know about.#WeAreUKComment

I haven't seen anything on him though, so he is a big guy that can shoot from what you said?

Re: 2014 Recruiting Thread
Very skilled big man at 7 feet and apparently still growing. Is a pure shooter to boot. Not very athletic but has a very high IQ. Gets comparisons to Durant but I don't see it. Durant is quicker than he is and more athletic. Regardless, he is a 4.3 GPA student and is reclassifying to 2014 so its a GREAT way to get that class started.#WeAreUKComment

Everything I've read says Towns compares best to Brian Cook.Comment

I have not heard of a comparison to Cook though. And since I don't know Cook, I have no idea of how good of a comparison that is either.#WeAreUKComment

Re: 2014 Recruiting Thread
After the Parker news a few weeks ago I'm super worried about 2014 now. Theoretically, we could have a monster class. But, I just can't help but feel like he's putting too many resources in these big names with no Plan B.
State is in fairly decent shape with Jahlil Okafor, Tyus Jones, and Cliff Alexander. Out of the three, at this point I think Alexander is the most likely as he seems to really like MSU. It would be a dream to get all three, plus Drake Harris (#52 on football scholarship) assuming the *uckeyes will leave it the hell alone. But yeah after the Parker news I am really worried we'll be left with nothing again.
Yeah, I reeeeeeeeeeeaaaallly want Tyus Jones. No flash, he just plays and gets it done. I love that. We just need a bunch of new guys too, I really dislike the make-up of our current team.Last edited by CC; 01-17-2013, 05:05 PM.Comment

Well the rumor going around is that several current Spartans are leaving after the season, so you might get your wish.
I wouldn't hold my breath on Drake Harris, though. I think he'll be playing football outside the state of Michigan for college.Comment
