Re: 2K needs to patch player roles NOW and not wait until next year.
lol, so we have the truth out in the open finally: they actually WANT (and are TRYING) to take control away from us. Awesome. And here I was being flamed to death for not being all giddy when MyGM details were fully announced. Man I should go find that thread and bump it.
Thank you for the honesty though (and I mean that. I'm pretty sure that the Devs that post on forums have been coached to speak in generalities and half-truths. We like honesty.). Barring a return of good ole fashioned Association Mode, you have saved me atleast $60 in future purchases.
I hope you guys can find away incorporate the option to turn Player Roles off for this year (and I know you said it's hard because you're messing with menus and such). If not, MyGM will probably be unplayable, and that means 2K14 just turned into a coaster for me. What a shame.Comment

Re: 2K needs to patch player roles NOW and not wait until next year.
Just to be clear, some of the issues talked about were taken away for design reasons, such as the option of turning off the impact of player roles, while others may have been as the result of time constraints. Most of the game was re-done from scratch and I want to make sure my statement about roles doesn't confuse anyone about other issues.lol, so we have the truth out in the open finally: they actually WANT (and are TRYING) to take control away from us. And, thanks, I will always try to be as honest and forthcoming as I can whenever I post here -- until I get in trouble and this becomes read-only for me.
And as said earlier, the option isn't likely for any patch, but I do feel the tweaks we're making will improve it a lot. I've been simulating a lot of the cases that people have been complaining about and the players that were getting mad for unrealistic reasons aren't any more.Dave Zdyrko

Understood. As I'm the one who posted the comment that made a few assumptions about centralized control from 2k, I appreciate the follow up comment.Just to be clear, some of the issues talked about were taken away for design reasons, such as the option of turning off the impact of player roles, while others may have been as the result of time constraints. We're in the dark here, obviously, but my other point still holds. We can all see the trends in the gaming industry, and we see 2k purposefully reducing at least some customer gameplay control. So my other point to emphasize is:
I tried to offer some suggestion as to how this might be done, and others will have better ones, I'm sure. I just hope 2k doesn't do what Valve, who is already ahead on the subscription cloud gaming model, mostly avoids doing: alienating game players by designing games without core player input and creativity. The problem is, as with any such business shift, removing user control and customization creates a lot of problems and backlash. I hope 2k finds the right balance, and works with its customers to maximize the amount of customization and minimize the amount of obnoxious toll booth gouging in the way microtransactions are implemented.Comment

Hopefully these tweaks make the MyGM mode more realistic and we can all enjoy it going forward!Comment

As I'm sure you and the others understand, I can't really get into any specifics about what we're planning for 2K15. That said, we do understand that customization is very important to people and it wouldn't be smart to ignore that. What that means for MyGM or Season Mode is yet to be determined.Understood. Re: 2K needs to patch player roles NOW and not wait until next year.
This is good to hear and, for what it's worth, customization and control are paramount for any gaming experience. For two completely different kinds of gamers. As I'm sure you and the others understand, I can't really get into any specifics about what we're planning for 2K15. That said, we do understand that customization is very important to people and it wouldn't be smart to ignore that. What that means for MyGM or Season Mode is yet to be determined.
1. Customization encourages community building. You see it here all the time. The roster editors, the graphics guys. People of like minds will seek each other and their gaming experience will be far more enjoyable.
2. Customization also allows for solitary gamers, like myself, to create their own diversionary world. ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE ALERT: I play sports games because I'm a terrible athlete who loves sports. I live vicariously through the games the way I always fantasized about as a kid. I, personally, like the role playing elements but I also want some control over my own destiny. I don't want to play the game the way everyone else does. I want my own personal experience and the removal of these options, plus the near insistence that we have to be online is killing me. I don't want to play with other people. I don't want other people seeing what I'm doing. This game is allowing me to put my childhood fantasies on my own television screen.
The only "fixed" aspect of the games should be the game on the court. Because basketball is basketball for all of us. And even then, if somebody wants to play with 12 foot rims, I say let them do it. The more custom the gaming experience, the personal and the more enjoyable.Comment

I definitely get it. When I play, I always like to put myself in the game -- albeit a more athletically-built version of me, of course! This is good to hear and, for what it's worth, customization and control are paramount for any gaming experience. For two completely different kinds of gamers.

Yep, I completely understand you can't get into specifics. Re: 2K needs to patch player roles NOW and not wait until next year.
I've noticed some things throughout several sims. Usually teams don't make trades unless a player is hurt (even if the player can still play). Let's look at the Heat for example. After week 2, Chalmers went out with an injury for a month. A day after he got injured, the Heat traded for Isiah Thomas. Then, Norris Cole got injured and they traded for Jarrett Jack. Also when Deaun Blair got injured, the Mavs traded Vince Carter to the Hawks for Elton Brand. Then, now not having a real backup SF, they traded for Harrison Barnes (for I forgot who). I also noticed teams will make trades if they don't have a legitimate backup for a position. So I feel teams aren't just making blind trades, there is some purpose. But with my run through that purpose is every time someone gets injured.Comment

Well if that is indeed the case, then injuries need to be toned down. Still way too many trades happening.I've noticed some things throughout several sims. Re: 2K needs to patch player roles NOW and not wait until next year.
I don't think it's that injuries need to be toned down, I think it's more the fact that when an injury occur, (even if it's as mild as a ankle sprain and the player is listed as day-to-day)that team's feel they need to make a roster move to make up for that missing player. Then once they make that move they need to then replace the player they just replaced ala the Mavs trading for another SF in Harrison Barnes after trading Carter for Brand to replace the injured Blair at backup PF.Comment
